Have You Used Hand Drawn Elements to Boost Response?

I'd appreciate people's feelings on their use (and any results you've seen) with hand-written graphic elements in online and offline sales letters, web pages, opt in forms, and so on.

It's been documented in several places online that hand drawn elements can help increase both online and offline response rates by up to 700%.

Now, anything that increases an opt-in or response rate has got to be worth something, and by hand drawn elements I'm talking about asterisks, arrows, underlinings, brackets, circles, call outs, sales buttons, and so on.

Were a new hand drawn graphics product to come along, what might your interest be in using it to help boost your website and sales letter response rates?

Now, yes, it's possible to make these things yourself. But let's be realistic here: when you need legal advice you go to a lawyer; when you need bread you go to a baker: you don't (ordinarily) do things that can be better outsourced to others, yourself, do you?

So suspending the notion of buying a scanner, a graphics tablet, and investing time and energy into making these things yourself, if you're neither creative, nor inclined to be creative, what price might you attach
to a collection of 500 or so, good quality graphics that are totally new and produced by someone with a 25 year background as an award winning graphic designer?

If you've bought hand drawn elements in the past, would you be willing to invest in a similar product that has the added USP of being produced by a direct response marketing-aware professional graphic designer?

There are so many graphics packages around and some include hand-drawn elements, but not many of them that I've seen. Here's what I've seen. People are not that impressed with graphics and many say that less is better. Your credentials won't drive the price up. People won't be willing to pay more because you are an award winning designer. These packages are often given away free as bonuses or sold very cheap, so I don't know if it would be worthwhile to you. That's just my take ... not my opinion. I've done a lot of design work on Elance for years (not any more), so I value graphic designers, but many don't value it much.

Take for an example the popularity of these so called "design contests", which are nothing more than getting people to work for free. As a designer, I would never submit samples without having won a project and received a deposit, but many do and it seems to be expected by many.

The package mentioned above is over $400.00
I would rather get the hardware and persuade someone
with better handwriting than myself to draw (hand write) exactly what I need.

Like any cool web page add on, it should be used sparingly.

As long as it doesn't look like this site.

On a more serious level. Use moderation. On a personal level I don't mind some, but when it starts looking like an Arlo Guthrie song* I hit the back button.

    Wow Kathy,
that site is exactly what I meant
when I said "It Should Be Used Sparingly".
    Great Example.

I use scruffies and love them. However, the important part of a sales page is simply the story, anything else is secondary. Scruffies are great because they look real, people love real.
