Increase Your Conversions By Literally Talking To Your Visitors

I stumbled upon an extension for Google talk known as "Google Talkabout." You can find out more information about it here: Google Talkabout: Google Talk Gadget

What you do is install a little JavaScript code on your website, and a little box will appear on the upper left hand corner of your website. When you're online, it will let your website visitors know this so if they want to speak to you personally they can, and they also don't need to have Google Talk in order to do this. This is an excellent way to get feedback for a new site and get in the mind of your website visitors which should make your marketing tests run a lot more smoother. Too many times us marketers tend to "guess" too much which leads us down the wrong path.

    Likewise, you can do the same thing with WOOPRA.

  • I've used this on a few e-commerce websites and it turned out very well. I, personally, suggest "Live Chat" or "Google Talkabout"

      Engaging visitors to your site in live chat can be VERY lucrative because it massively increases the conversion of visitors to paying clients.

      Thank you so much for sharing this tool Doug.

      Kindest regards,

        Exactly, as from my testing experience, engaging with a web visitor is something even the best sales letter cant emulate. By speaking with web visitors you help best trust and likeness which are always elements that will jump your conversions.

    Really great idea, people are becoming much more comfortable with that type of discussion (compared to a few years ago) due to Facebook. I think we could see something like this as a growing trend among websites, we're beginning to see a slightly similar concept with Facebook pages.

    Ya but what happens when you have a ton of visitors at the same time? Does it start like 50 convos or a chat room?

    Very interesting. I bet you could get some great results by going Vaynerchuk and spending a ton of time just interacting with customers, using this tool.

    Given that you have good traffic volume, of course.

    And don't mind not having a life for a few days/weeks.

    Doug, I think they key takeaway here is "testing phase."

    This is a great way to get to know your audience, and see what they REALLY want. I'd collect data for a week, then either shut it off or outsource it.

    You could even have a freelancer just posting pre-scripted FAQ's from the initial testing phase... so he/she wouldn't even need to be an expert in the topic.

    Wow, this really is a good concept that I've overlooked.

    Nice - I'm glad I clicked through despite the title, which I thought meant literally talk.
    As someone who has a voice made for silent movies, I'd rather type, thanks.

      @ShaneRQR - Well, it will require some of your time, but if one has a set schedule then this shouldn't be too much of a strenuous task. Also, remember this is not something that you should be doing for months, it should be done long enough so that you can can extract confidential information from your web visitors so that you can build a better website.

      @SimonHarrison - Why not try it ?! With that being said, i'll show you one from a website that im currently testing.

      @Nick Brighton- BINGO!

      @KathyK - Whoops!

    I have mixed feelings about this. I can see how it could be useful in some situations but the last thing I want to do is be in front of my computer all day getting interrupted by anyone who wants to chat with me no matter what I'm involved in.

    That's not the livestyle I want or why I got involved in internet marketing.

    I'm sure you can limit when you do it but then it defeats the purpose like those live chat windows that you try to chat and the person is never there.

      This is where having staff comes in handy. Someone could be available for questions 9-5 and as long as you're not running a site with huge amounts of traffic, it would be a great tool for conversions.

        Yes for staff it could be helpful but if you aren't careful this could be a big time sucker and a huge distraction for you.

          Sure. It's all about whether or not it's cost-effective. And I think for a lot of small and medium sized companies who sell services where a customer relationship is key, this tool is absolutely fantastic. Obviously I haven't experimented with it yet but I imagine there will be some great ways to use this other than purely for customer service.

          @MikeHumphreys - Good question, not that I'm aware of. You can change the dimensions and the position of the box, and also the text that is displayed, but I don't see the feature that you are inquiring about.

          @LondonPaladin - Nothing I can do man. Just try again later.

          @Plish - Yep makes you think how many other products Google is secretly hiding from us.

          @ronr - As again, I wouldn't want to be doing this in the long run as well. But if you're online working on your business, for an hour, do you think it will be all that detrimental to have this application available to your prospective customers? I would rather spend time auditing my site daily as opposed to "guessing" and decreasing my conversions without knowing why. As again, I would recommend not listening to anyone, but simply to test it and see how it goes.

          @MarkAndrews IMCopywriting - You're welcome!
