I have a site which has 321 pages listed with Google - because of something I tried two years ago I saw the number of pages indexed by Google double in 3 months. That was great then but now I want to reposition myself and launch a rebrand.

I am moving to a Wordpress blog style site but still want a few pages that I will update in XSite Pro that will showcase various bits n bobs for clients. So I have a good idea of the site layout however what do I do about all the pages currently indexed by Google?

My thoughts are;
Just delete them, 301 redirects on them all and move on
Keep the URLS and recycle them with new content and just have them as underlying supporting pages

To be honest a lot of the pages won;t be useful for my repositioning - in fact I am trying to distance myself from what I used to do (not in a bad way you understand) time to move on.

So what would be the best way to do this - maybe just whack a generic page on every url with a load of adsense?

What would you do?

    Sounds like the best thing to do, since your content is different, is just redirect the highest traffic pages, and/or the most important pages.

    You can always create articles or increase your reach with social networking or whatnot to compensate for traffic loss somehow.

    I'd point one of those 301's to a squeeze page or a page/post that lets repeat visitors know your format has changed, and make a signup/subscribe form so they can stay in contact with you.

    I moved from a traditional site to a site much like xsite. I had nothing but problems and never had a working subscribe form. Wish the move was easier but.. oh well!

    Hope this gives you a few ideas.

      Grant,

      Much obliged for the info and the suggestions. I think I may just take the hit on the lost traffic as you say.

      I have never had any problems with XSP esp the forms and such, what version are you using, what operating system, server software? If I can heplp let m know.

    Dang hit send... So we'll see how it does, have left other pages up and will slwoly work through time with redirects or inclusion into new site. But again thanks for the advice.
