This is not for me I QUIT

Hello,
I am a beginner in Affiliate Marketing and I want to write an article about the most terrible moments in Affiliate Marketing. Moments that you almost gave up and you said "This is not for me".
So please write your most terrible moments and your "I QUIT" moments.
Thanks in advance.

I almost jumped ship twice. Once when I dished out some serious money on adwords and didn't make a dime back. Another time when I wrote dozens upon dozens of articles and didn't receive a single sale... let alone traffic.

If it wasn't for the forums and my stubbornness for never wanting to stop something I started, I think I would have been still killing bugs for a living (used to be an exterminator)!

I have yet to have this feeling, because I like to change what I do online now and then, just to keep it interesting. Doesn't mean I tear old sites/projects down though.

I almost quit several times (been doing this for over six years.) I wasn’t making money and my home business was actually costing me more than I was bringing in. People working in $10.50 an hour jobs were making more in a day than I was in a month. But something inside of me told me to just keep going, and I’m glad I did. I’ve given up on so many other things in my life, but just could never bring myself to give up on this. I’m too old to quit at this point and have been doing this somewhat successfully for too long.

My home business was a complete joke for the longest time it was really like “Business? what businesses? businesses make money you aren’t making money so therefore you don’t have a business.” at my lowest point I felt more like a struggling artist, writer or musician than a business person/entrepreneur.

I got 91 chargebacks on my PayPal and the next morning I logged in to both my PayPal and eBay accounts being frozen, locked, and terminated. I couldn't even log in to PayPal to see what my balance was.

A few weeks later I got a letter from PayPal's collection agency for a debt of $2,693.03. I tried calling PayPal, but they sent me to the online help desk, who sent me to the customer service number, who kept me on hold to send me to the online help desk, and the vicious circle continued.

I was eventually finally able to start a new PayPal with a different debit card, but I still can't get an ebay account for any time over a week without it being limited. Tought times, but I'll get through it.

Somewhat similar story (dealing with knockoff's and going through
      hell to fix the problem).

I was making bank on "Window's Home Office Operating System
      Packages".

I had a similar horror story myself, only that mines wasn't as big
of an amount I had to pay back (I got a $1,100 collection on my
      accounts from paypal).

I was banking good money selling "Window's Home Office Operating
System Packages". They were going for about $300 retail legit,
and I swear I thought I hit a goldmine of LEGIT OS's after looking
for hours online to find just ONE website (coincendently chinese)
      that offered it cheaper.

I purchased 5 of these OS systems from a chinese manufacture
      for $500. But here's the kicker: I PRE-SOLD them BEFORE I had
them in my hand. I collecet almost $200 PER person, and took
the money to purchase it from this "secret source".

It actually worked. Up until the point where it took 3 weeks for it
to come. People were fustrated. I finally got them in the mail from
      customs through USPS.

The box's sealed looked very legit. But, my gut was telling me
otherwise. Took it to someoine at Staples who knew computers
and they thought it was legit. Yet still, I had my doubts.

Finally decided to break open a box and try it on my own computer,
and lo and behold, it was a fake.

You would think "Oh, well you can just GIVE them their money
back". But, keep in mind that I DIDN'T have the money to spend
in the first place. I PRE-SOLD it. So, almost overnight I was in
      the hole for over $500.

I broke the news to those who purchased and promised to pay
as soon as I can. Some were cool about it, many of them weren't
and filed Paypal disputes. Paypal called to ask me what the hell
was going on...and one customer called me personally very pissed
      (yet surprisinsgly understanding).

It's one of those "What's the worst that can happen?" situations
that was FAR worse than you could possibly imagine. It was an
undescribable feeling I would wish on no one, especially when
YOU know your intentions are good, but you did something what
      most people would call "corrupt".

I genuinly thought that what I was doing was a slam dunk winner,
but it turned out to be a massive failure.

I can't say that it made me think about quitting ebay. Because,
it actually INSPIRED me to learn from it and do it better next
      time.

      And I did.

I sold cell phones VERY profitably with cell phone arbitrage, and
I got damn good at it for 3 - 4 months after. It was alot of fun,
very profitable, and was just a bliss to do. I did all the selling on
      ebay after fixing my disaster.

It was a bittersweet moment in my life, and I actually would
never take back the experinece for anything. Because I came
out stronger and a more intuitive business man because of it
      (all in hindsight of course).

I wish there really was a push-button solution to online riches But the truth is, the harder you work in the right direction, you more you'll earn. The more effort you put in initially (research), the more reward you'll get back in return.

There are no quick solutions to earn money online. Period.

Well I can say not so much me but my wife and just about anyone I know tells me I am wasting my time. I have spent LOTS of money on gaining an education in marketing in general and online marketing in particular.

When everyone around me has no clue about even the most basic stuff and fills my head with THEIR doubts, I have to persevere and remember why I am doing it.

My wife almost crushed me the the other week by saying "you need to go get a job". And I said "F that, just you wait and see." I always love to prove people wrong.

I own a custom home building business and I can tell you that in today's market (and the bleak future) that I don't see hope in the near future, but when I think about my online business, I get really excited when I think about what the potential of my ideas can do.

Ideas can change lives, but not on their own, the course of action is the vehicle that will take my ideas down the road to my dreams. I truly believe in what I am doing and can't wait to post my first REAL success story from any one of my brainstorm crazy ideas!

Don't doubt, just do often and consistently and it will come.

ITA with this!!Now mind you, I'm still new at this (started studying IM in April) and there are times when I feel like I'm going to scream, after reading for hours and hours...I go work out, watch Sopranos (my fave!), something to clear my mind, and it works like a charm.

I almost gave up once because AvenueGirl took away my cookies. Talk about a deep funk.

Back in the real world, I came very close to quitting back in 2002 when my first real online business failed in a matter of weeks. Went from six figures to almost nothing. Didn't see it coming, either.

But here's the thing about times when you feel like giving up: it takes that to discover what you're really made of. The feelings suck, but the circumstances toughen you up. Fighters dig in and get mad. They use that energy in positive ways to prove "fate" or "bad luck" wrong. So, while I wouldn't wish the depression and days of feeling worthless on anyone else, that gauntlet made me stronger and a better business owner today.

In April of last year, I was laid off from a six-figure position at Microsoft.

My wife and I agreed that I would now stay home with the kids and she would go back to work, because she was really tired of the whole stay-at-home mom thing.

For reasons I didn't understand at the time, and still don't entirely understand, the money ran out. My unemployment wasn't enough. So I came to the Warrior Forum, and started looking into ways we could earn a small income online to keep our heads above water.

Then we got our eviction notice. My wife had simply... not paid the rent.

I started freelance writing on the forum, and rapidly built up some good money.

    We got evicted anyway.

In July, we had to move into a hotel.

In August, we moved down to Oregon.

In September, my wife packed up the kids and left me, then I was kicked out of the hotel. I came back up to Washington.

In October, I got a $5,000 writing client. Things were looking up. I planned to take November off from writing and develop my own product.

In November, the client disappeared with the work and never paid me. The state of Washington began seizing half my unemployment check to cover a $12,000 child support debt based on paperwork my wife had filed behind my back.

To increase her own cash benefit on the paperwork, she had reported that I still worked at Microsoft and still earned the six-figure salary I'd lost six months earlier. She either didn't know or didn't care that the state was merrily running up a $2,000 monthly child support tab for me behind the scenes.

On November 22, I dropped my still-unfinished product on the WSO forum and managed to make a little money with it. It still sells to this day; it's not a bad product.

On December 11, between the lack of clients and the reduced unemployment, we had no money. We hadn't eaten in three days. We couldn't afford to remain in the hotel. We moved all of our stuff into the car and parked in a Safeway parking lot.

We would live in that car for two weeks before my parents returned from a trip to Ohio and let us move into the basement.

During that time, I received two writing orders from Warriors who never received their work. I kind of spent the money on silly things like food, but was so heavily stressed and unable to handle anything that I just plain couldn't get the work done. I haven't forgotten these debts, I am not in any way trying to hide from them or conceal them, and they will be repaid.

    But I digress.

Sitting on my desk right now, I have a notebook. And that notebook is open to this page.

This is what I did on December 12 of last year. It was just after midnight, and I was unable to sleep. My girlfriend and my four cats were in the car with me, and it was 17 degrees outside.

This is a comprehensive plan for a major product. A guru-style product, that comes in a big box and costs $2,500. And while the plans have changed somewhat, the core elements laid out on this page of the notebook are still the same.

I can't say outright that this is the difference between failure and success in this industry, because I'm no success yet. But my gut tells me that this is what makes the difference - that when things are at their darkest, and you're not really sure whether that light at the end of the tunnel is a train, and you start thinking that you should quit...

You plan your multi-million dollar product launch instead.

Ever thought about getting another IT job to bring in some cash during the day and working on you online business in the evenings?
It's just that I also work in IT, so know that if you were once earning 6 figures, you must have enough skills to get a decent job (even if it's not on that level again).
That way a bit of the pressure would be taken off you, and you could really relax and focus on your online project in the evenings?

I once set up an Adwords campaign and accidentally set both the display and destination URLs to the vendor's sales page sans affiliate code.

In a related story, a friend at the time had his campaign running for a while before discovering he'd set the destination to his download page rather than the sales page.

Biggest thing I've found to remember is not to be put off by a bad day, or even week but keep your eye on the end target - helps get over the inevitable moments when you just feel like giving it in - few things more souls destroying than investing hours and hours of your time in something that generates zero return!

I agree with several of the other posts in that I almost quit due to Information Overload.... I still suffer from it.. I have to remain focused on each project and stick with it. I generally choose a few projects to work on at a time and don't start anything else until each one is finished... some are a success, some are not.. but maintaining focus is soooo important.

When did I get most nervous/scared during my IM career? When the money was running out and I didn't know where I was going to live the following month. I was resigned to live out of my car if need be.

If one begins thinking about quitting, then actually quitting is just around the corner.

Yes, there is way too much information beginners try to absorb and that can be overwhelming, distracting, and leads to many just giving up.

Take baby steps before you run. Falling down hurts. But to succeed you must get up, brush yourself off, learn from your mistakes and keep going.

The key is to just not give up. And always be prepared to fall again.

I have felt like quitting a number of times - mainly after working too much, information overload and then reading about how someone just made $5,000 (or whatever) and they have only been doing IM for one month! That's when I felt like quitting. Then I read how many work hard at this to make it happen and I get inspired again and just get this feeling of "I know I can do this."

But, I have to say that I really feel like a schmuck cuz I have never been through what some of you guys have!

"Rodite" and "WhoisBenjamin," you guys are amazing to recover from that and deserve success. I think a blow like that would have knocked me out of the game.

"CDarklock" - WOW... I am really sorry to hear what you have been through and am highly impressed that through it all you still seem to get things done! I believe you will achieve success. When I had a land business, I remember the first years when times would get tough and I had mentors remind me that "Persistence Always Pays." You seem to be very persistent! Thank you for sharing your story with us.

        Sincerely,
        Cindy P.

I never really thought about actually quitting...

Instead, what I found frustrating for quite some time was traffic generation...which boiled down to keyword research.

When I got a grasp on doing correct keyword research, a lot of stress disappeared.

Interesting.. I had to think about if I ever thought about completely quitting..

Since the day I decided to pursue IM 7+ years ago, I never thought about quitting totally (I knew I'd do something.. no option) - really my dream was to just do this full-time.. and I knew there were a ton of options/models for me out there and if I stuck with it long enough, tried to avoid the scams and schemes, worked hard and focused I'd figure it out.

And did. I quit a lot of 'IM Models' and had to make several attempts at different things to finally make the level of income I needed to go full-time.. but I never thought about quitting completely.

I took a lesson from Napoleon Hills, Think and Grow Rich and applied it. I had made up my mind.. I didn't know what form it would come in, but I knew in my heart if I stayed the course I'd make it.
