Which is more effective? Please advise!

Hi All,

I have been trying to make a decent living online, researching and buying into all kinds of program just to see if the breakthrough would finally come. Of recent, I decided to promote a popular forex site (etoro) online mainly via what I call radical article marketing and social sites submissions/online social bookmarking. However, despite the quality articles I have churned out over a long period of time, I am still lagging behind and yet to get my first customer or sales no matter how little. I have been trying to figure out why!
Please this question is for everyone especially the more experienced guys in the house:
Is it better to write single articles say 2 to 5 articles and submit them quite often as they come or is it better to churn out several articles, say 20 to 50 articles and then submit to the article directories at once? From your experience which is more effective?
Feel free to provide additional advice/tips that would enable a brother to start making money like he has always wished for over 2 years!

Thanks all.

The secret is in keyword research. No matter how many articles you write, if they aren't seen in the serps then it's basically useless. (Though this is not a generalization, there are exceptions of course)

Check your keywords. First try to grab a good one. Just a good one and then put all of your efforts to getting the top spot for that.

After that, it's rinse and repeat

What is the click thru rate on your articles? Are they being seen?

Also, have you set up some additional traffic funnels - like a blogger blog or weebly site?

Are your articles going directly to a sales page or your own site?

Another thing I've noticed -- If you submit a bunch of articles at once, it can take them longer to get indexed because you're competing with yourself in a way.

Personally, I try not to submit articles with the same target keyword on the same day. If I just submitted one on SEO, I'll submit another on article marketing, etc.

Question for you - are you getting article views, but they aren't translating into visits and sales? Or are you just not getting any article views?

It is tough to do mass article marketing these days, especially in the Forex niche (at least for me). I made a few sales in that niche, but I am not in it anymore. However, I would recommend you do some in depth keyword research using the Google Adwords Keyword Tool, as well as SEObook.com.

Keyword research is crucial, and you also need to be thinking of other ways to re-purpose your original articles in order to leverage the content you already have. Submit your articles to document sharing websites such as Scribd, and also make sure to create a blog and add your articles to it.

In future don't submit your articles all at once instead submit 2-3 articles daily, have you been optimizing your articles? Keyword is another thing might be hurting you though, in order have steady traffic you need to do backlinking, also start blogging as well. It takes a lot of work though.

    Best Wishes!

@ Everyone, thanks a bunch for all your useful contributions so far.

@ rapidscc, I try as much as possible to research on useful keywords having less competition but with reasonable monthly searches(using adword keyword tool). I use these in my articles, ensuring they appear sparingly in my article title, body and tags. I don't know if there's something I'm doing wrong.

@ avenuegirl, the click through rate on my articles (for my new campaign) is about 21% on ezine. I guess this is okay but yet no sales breakthrough. Initially, my links led straight to my affiliate sales page because I thought this would ensure better sales conversions but this was just not the case (I even bought a unique domain name for this). I then decided to set up a blog (more like a brief review page) at wordpress.com which was precise, clear and straight to the point. I got some traffic to the blog but the few people that clicked through my affiliate link still did not buy.

@NicoleBeckett, of course I get some article views and site visits, but they are not translating into sales.

But with apologies for sounding so negative, for what it's worth (if anything) you've picked a product/service I wouldn't promote, myself, and certainly wouldn't try to promote in those ways. It's not one of my "niches" but I'm a former small-scale currency trader who knows and understands the market quite well, partly because it's been my father's profession all my life, too, which is the only reason I'm replying with my limited thoughts on this subject.

I haven't promoted such services/products myself, because I'm an article marketer and rightly or wrongly I wouldn't expect articles to be a successful approach, I'm afraid. But I suspect that if trying it, what matters more than the number of articles you're producing is to have your own site and publish them there first, to have a list-building opt-in, and to build relationships with your future customers, and gradually to build up an authority site, I think. In this niche, I suspect you'll be greatly disadvantaged by not doing so, when so many hundreds or thousands of others are.

I'd also instinctively expect "forum marketing" to be a far more productive (albeit very time-consuming, if done sensibly with a long-term approach) plan for this "niche" than articles and social networking. Your potential customers are much more likely to be looking in forums than finding articles by using search engines searching for specific terms (is my belief).
@Alexa, your points are well noted. I'll go back to where I started from and restrategize on how to develop a great site first and foremost. However, does it mean sending traffic directly to my affiliate sales page would yield no result? I would also want you to shed more light on how to make the best use of forum marketing. I am very much interested in this since article marketing doesn't seem to be working.
@All, what kind of affiliate programs does article marketing really work for? Please pardon my curiosity, i just don't seem to get it!

@ mlord10, most of my articles are keyword rich. One of them actually once ranked No.6 for its keywords on google and No.4 on bing! However, the issue here is that there's no sales. I keep wondering what it is that I'm not doing well. I wouldn't mind going for another affiliate program but I just don't want to make the same mistakes again..

@ Jamian, article marketing doesn't seem to be working for me. You mind shedding more light on 'backlinking'?

Thanks everyone, my happy feelings towards your contributions is far beyond comprehension. I feel so good that you guys are trying to help. Please don't go yet..

    Definetely consistency is important....

I mean you need to write as much as possible, but if you're not using the right keywords theres no point...

How are your keywords, are they targeted?

you really have to focus on the targeted keywords, because those are what they call the money keywords...

for example, if you were selling trainers....

you wouldn't just write trainers as your keyword....

you would make it more targeted, what is the brad of those trainers?

then you would write the brad ad trainers example. "Nike trainers"

so you are targeting your prospects, ad you know the only people who are typing that are people searching for Nike trainers

    Hope ive helped you

As mlord, above, mentioned, the forex niche is exceptionally difficult. Getting into forex has a different set of decisions compared to most other online businesses, Also etoro are fairly new on the block. There are many more, larger broking houses that are better known and have brand recognition. A google search will provide these to you. Best of luck in your efforts.

@louiseevans222, I understand your point quite well, my article keywords are all targeted and are researched upon using google adword keyword tool and the likes.

@webpageguru, etoro gets up to a hundred thousand global searches alone each month, much more than most other forex broker sites. However I think forex niche appears exceptionally difficult just like you noted. I might just have to reconsider moving away completely from this niche. Just that most other niches have so much competition that you begin to wonder how far you can go. I'm still thinking though..
Do you guys think getting a unique domain name with 'etoro' on it would help it rank better?

        Thanks all.

Forex is extremely competitive. Maybe you should think about finding a smaller less competitive niche while you learn.
