Here is a great article about how Facebook SAVED a local restaurant.

It is one example of the power of social media

Nice to see a group come together and rally around saving something. My gut tells me if the food and service stunk then it would have been a lost cause.

This also shows how customer service and high quality can impact the survival of your business.

      Respectfully,

Funny, this restaurant is just down the street from me. I've never been there but now I'll have to check it out. I'll also use this article when talking to local clients. Thanks!

I have a restaurant client who never believed in marketing online.

He now uses Facebook regularly and has over 1500 followers on his 'Like' page. In a city where competition is stiff, his business is flourishing beyond his imagination.

His ad budget has been cut in half with the power of marketing online.

    Great article. Thanks for sharing

Word of mouth is what sends restaurants profits into the sky and Facebook is a PERFECT way to virally manufacture word of mouth.

I agree, its a fantasic example of what can be done with social media marketing.

While a few are still saying "it doesn't work" there are others who are using it effectively to build their business.

The news report is powerful because its no some promo piece for a promotions company, its Local biz does good news.

If you are in marketing this is one reason to issue a press release of all your success stories in the name of the business not your company name.

Facebook can be a drain though if a business only has its family and friends as their fans or friends.

I love the article! Thanks Mark, and how the restaurant owner came out in full transparency and said what's going on that as per the article went viral.

"The situation at St. Pete Brasserie is dire. They are poised to close their doors if a miracle does not happen this week. Please support our local, independent restaurants. They have a great menu with an inspired chef and good prices. Prix fixe is $17. 15 jobs are at stake."

Wow, That's such a touching story. That's the potential of facebook; it's just the correct condition for viral marketing to get your brand out there for the least amount of work possible if you know what you're doing.

That is why many businesses now invest in fan pages for their businesses!

Well a number of IMers these days have Facebook and Twitter as their largest sources of referral traffic with around 3 minutes average time on site.

Nice, but he should really be doing more than just status updates if he wants to stay afloat.

I know a local hairdresser who really does Facebook well.
