Domain Names Transfer?

Hi guys,

This is probably a really dumb question but i can't find a quick answer for this.

My hosting provider charges way too much for a .info domain name so i want to buy it somewhere else.
Do i have to do any particular process for tying the domain name with the hosting provider?

Thanks

I transfer domains all the time. I'm not quite sure I understand your question:
    1. If you already own the domain name, it's easy enough to transfer it to another registrar.
    2. If you want to purchase a .info domain cheap, registrars such as Godaddy and Namecheap periodically have specials on it. Many also can reduce prices with discount codes (easy to find with a Google search).
    3. If you own the domain name but want to change hosting, that's simple too. Change the nameserver.

Yeah it is just a matter of changing the nameservers to point the domain to your hosting provider.

      Thank you Thunderbird and Sheryl

I suspected it would be easy but "changing the nameservers"?

Is this an option to be actioned from where i buy the domain name? Or actioned from my hosting prvider?

You change the nameservers from where you bought the domain, inside your account manager area. You get the actual names of the nameservers from your hosting provider. They will look something like: ns1.yourhost.com . The hosting provider should give you that info when you buy hosting, along with the rest of the setup information.

This assumes that the hosting provider will run name servers for domains managed elsewhere. Not all will.
