How to drive traffic with Yahoo Answers

Does anyone know how to drive traffic through Yahoo Answers?

I had a look at it and it looks to me that all the links are nofollow links. So how do you actually do it?

you can drive traffic through Yahoo answers by doing exactly what it was created for, giving people answers to their questions.

just make sure you give them some good "teaser" info and then bait them into going to your site.

Giving an accurate and informative answer can pay off especially when your site relates to the "answer". The best way to learn which answer pay off is to start doing the work.

You have to be careful in Yahoo Answers, Yahoo will cancel your account if they detect too many links in your answers. It's best to post 10 non-money answers (answers containing no links, just good information) to every money answer (answer with a link(s). So make your money answer a good one.

It's also to your advantage to strive for a top rated answer, you'll get many more views over the years. Your answer will also remain live for the life of the internet, so the traffic you'll receive over the years can be astronomical.

Apart from what everyone else has mentioned, you can also do so by establishing a good reputation. The better the answer, the more thumbs up, the better. You also need not do "hard sell" if you know what I mean. Just subtly inject your product or website or link without really sounding as if you're trying too hard to lure the reader.

    Hi

Look at the categories for the niche you are in and answer relevant questions. Don't just write 'you will get lots of information at such and such site' but provide something informative and put you site url in the box for the 'source'.

Don't appear to be blatantly promoting your site.

Sometimes I have found that if the site can't respond for some reason that means that the link in the source has been used too much. In which case, leave it for a couple of minutes/hours then respond to a few posts and don't include a link.

Some people blatantly spam the site by providing the same copy and pasted info and link but somehow they seem to get away with it. I wouldn't go down that route though as they may just set up new accounts and aren't too bothered about reputation.

Another good way to use Yahoo answers is to use the questions for ideas and titles for articles that you write. I've found this a really useful way to trigger ideas when I write articles.

    Best wishes

    Mary

Just answer. Don't try to be spammy. Remember to get an avatar so that people have something to recognise you by. You probably know all that. Just do it.

I've found Yahoo answers to work pretty well.

It's amazing the amount of times, an answer of mine that is several MONTHS old, is chosen as a best answer.

It's good to see some longevity with this method.

IMO the only downside to Yahoo Answers is it is so labor intensive.
But it can definitely produce traffic - and for quite awhile.

I've had some very good traffic from Yahoo answers and it's true that you want to be helpful in your answers, not just spam.

I used to offer a helpful hint and then refer them to an article on my site, usually deep in my site but now I just use the window at the bottom that asks for the source website. That way you don't have to worry about appearing to be self-promoting.

If there's more than three or four answers already, I don't bother submitting my answer. I always check in a few times a day to catch the questions that have 0 answers so I can get at the top of the list of replies.

    Hope that helps,

You have to be very careful to avoid being banned. I had 25 answers, all high quality. In fact, 6 of them were voted "best answer". Still I was banned. They give you no explanation, although it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. They will not explain exactly how you violated the TOS. I was careful to give only high quality answers, and brought this to their attention, but their only reason given, even after several attempts to clarify exactly the violation, was "You violated the TOS"

Beware, it is a great traffic source, but you have to thread the needle.

Just to recap what's already been said here:

You can get banned even if your careful.. But it's worth every exhausting hour of work.

The search engines do pick up Yahoo!Answers so be sure to use lot's of long tail keywords in your answers. This works so much better outside of the IM market.

Try to get in on the first answer. This will always get you more traffic.

Put your link in the box for resources not in the actual answer.

If you work to give really good answers you will often be chosen as the "best answer".

Yahoo!Answers won't be a great place to get targeted traffic from - forever- Use it now while it still works.

if u get banned so easy, how do u actually drive traffic? do u answer pointing to right sources? Do you point to products via affiliate links?
    what do u actually do?
its clear that you answer other people's questions, but how exactly does that get you traffic????

Great traffic source but thats all it is. You just get traffic.
The conversion rate was very low compared to my other traffic sources.

But then again it's very hard to beat a well researched ppc campaign.

I've actually noticed that Yahoo Answers traffic converts pretty well, although I only use them for 2 niches that target women in their twenties.

But this is with an account that has over 30 best answers on it - maybe that helps.

i am still pretty intrigued by the guy who said he made $600 in his best day through Yahoo Answers. Does anyone know how exactly?

Do you just find relevant discussions, study products and recommend them?

Go to rentacoder.com and post a job for someone to answer questions on yahoo answers.

Give them a list of 10 keywords to use. Every day have them search for the keywords and answer any questions that relate to it leaving a site/article of yours as the link.

You can have this done for about 10c an answer.
