Google hung up on me!

I have never really tried to call Google, but they have a new feature on YouTube called the YouTube Video Targeting Tool. Basically you can target videos that aren't yours and advertise there either with a pre-roll, or a rollover at the bottom of the screen.

So I got a little confused and decided to find the adwords phone number and give them a call.

The recording said they can't talk to everyone, pointed to their help center online and hung up on me.

I couldn't even talk to a person to reject me.

What's the deal with that?

      Indeed, some would say that is a miracle. I'm surprised really, usually they want to do things on the cheap and only refer you to a FAQ, looks like now they are doing it with PH lines as well.

    I never have heard of anyone trying to phone Google. Now you know why me thinks. Can you imagine the logistical nightmare if they were to start offering free customer support lines. They'd become the largest inhouse call center instantly if they were to do that. Which is something I am quite certain they are not ready to tackle just yet as their current business model seems to be working just fine for them.

      We had dedicated phone support with Adwords, but they cut it off as soon as we dropped below $40,000 per month spend.

      It was kind of insulting.

          Same with me.. They always make me wait forever and doesn't really give me much assistance to my concern. LOL yeah I still haven't heard anyone talk to google on the phone yet..

    I consider myself a guy who can handle a little bit of research, but so far I can't find anything that explains how to use this tool I mentioned in the OP.

    I think I used it right, but I don't even know if I should start over, or just wait. It's all connected to adwords and its supposed to be working now... Guess I should just sit back and wait a bit.

      Considering the vast number of marketers who would love to talk with a Google customer service rep, I'm surprised they don't set up 900 numbers for customer service, and make their customer service (the lack of which irritates so many thousands of people) a profit center. That would be a win-win solution for everybody. Oh, wait. That would mean that Google would actually be helping people instead of p_ _ sing them off.

        If Google would do that the blogs and forums would irrupt with pissed off people... how dare Google charge for support. So doubtful it would be a win-win.

        They're just following the 4-hour work week approach to customer service.

    Back in the good ol' days, Google actually answered the phone. I had a personal AdWords rep when I was spending just $1,000 a month. When I started spending $10,000 a month, they dropped the telephone support and it would take weeks to get an email reply, if I ever got one at all.

    It goes through the main chunks of it. But I am not sure if I have done anything right. Maybe I am not bidding high enough, or keywords are off. I don't know. I've got promoting videos down for sure.

    But this is different. A friend of mine called it an affiliate marketers wet dream.... oh my...

    You don't have to be big, or know how to make videos in order to advertise and get targeted customers to your website on YouTube.

    That said... if there were a person doing reviews of say... a camera, and he is getting crazy views... why not put your amazon link on HIS video through YouTube Video Targeting tool?

    Seems logical to me.

    Should I be charging for this information?

    didn't even know they had a contact number.

    i tried so hard to contact them before regarding my google checkout account but seems like the only way would be to drive down to the google office and knock on their doors.

    It's amazing you can spend $40k a month with a company and not get to call them.

    I spend about $10.00 a month (yes ten dollars) on average with Google and they tried to call ME the other day! Woop Woop!

    I'm too busy to get back to them though.

    Call Google back! Ask to speak to Google's top people in management, due to poor customer service...

    Request/demand credit related compensation in addition to being treated with superior customer service like every customer should be. Those that don't speak up regarding receiving Quality customer service get Nothing!

    Request/demand and you'll be surprised at the satisfaction, discounts/credits that you'll receive with many companies these days when you respectfully deal with poor customer relations and service situations. Practice makes perfect...

    Maybe if you are spending gobs of money you can talk to someone.

    I have been doing research on this since it was just an "idea" that Google was talking about back in late 2009. Even in an article I found said only people who have relationships with Google could actually use it at the time... Guess 40k per month is the magic number.

    I have found lots of free info about adwords, but nothing about the YouTube Video Targeting tool.

    Any of you with adwords accouts wanna give it a try and tell me what you have found? It's pretty cool to play around with even if you don't have an adwords account.

    It makes sense, and that was my plan of sorts. So many people on YouTube undervalue their own content... it's kinda sad really.

    And btw. I have got a bit better with the YouTube Video Targeting tool... but word of caution... DON'T do image banners or anything.... I put one up and it is still just sitting there pending review. It's been weeks and nothing.

    most companies automate there calls nowadays try pressing 0 on the phone next time. they will not tell you but take you to a rep for most companies or sometimes 9 but mostly 0

      I was looking everywhere for an adwords phone number last week! Couldn't find anything. Every time I thought I found a link to one it would send me to one of those faq pages. In fact I had read them so many times that when they finally answered my email I was able to quote from their faq's by memory.
