Offline Marketing- How to find up to date/accurate business adresses/phone numbers?

So, I'm starting a new venture that involves offline marketing. For the most part it involves finding companies in a specific market and mailing out letters to certain companies. I'm pretty excited about this because it has such great potential. The problem however is finding up to date business information. At first, I simply used dnb.powerprofiles.com, bbb.org, and google maps to find this information. But then I decided to check one of my local business owner friends info and the information on dnb.powerprofiles.com and bbb.org is WAY outdated. Google maps was accurate for his business but not for some others in the area. Then I decided to call some of the numbers that I had already mailed out the letters to from the info i got from bbb and powerprofiles. Low and behold 90% of these numbers were no longer in service.

The only others I was able to find as of now that I can assume is more on the 'accuarte' side are yellow pages and maybe even superpages website.

So where can I go to find accurate and up to date business information? Thanks

You can buy in data from various companies. I prefer to target companies with high turnover and low amount of employees.

Not sure where in the world you are so cant give you any specific names.

I will have my VA first get phone and address info from google maps, then compare with some kinda yellow pages (yp.com or superpages).

I usually get the biz owners name from bbb.org OR an association site. The association sites always seem to have good owner name info. I will also do a search for business licenses in the city. Much of the time there is a site that will show you all the information on a biz license... including owner, secretary, treasurer...

    Google Maps could be accurate.

To be sure though, you could also search for the "Company Name" in Google and they may haave other listings such as Yell, or other business directories containing contact info!

There's also solutions like GoLeads ( Mailing Lists - Sales Leads , Telemarketing, Business, Residential Lists & Leads ) for generating updated business listings for contacts

Also try doing a search for list brokers that service your area

Go get yourself a highly targeted list customized to your specifications on a free trial from the world leader in b2b call lists Sales Genie. Let the sales person walk you through the list criteria selection process and you will get a laser targeted lead list thats almost as good as them calling you! (Okay not quite that good).

    Google maps?

Looking at some of the answers above it surprises me that more people, particularly in the field of offline marketing and cold calling small business owners dont know about the HUGE call data industry and the modern sophisticated methods of generating call lists that have become common place in the offline marketing industry today. Sales Genie is the best, but as mentioned above there is also go leads and virtually HUNDREDS of other companies selling highly targeted call data (Customized lists).

    For instance:

If you want to target small business owners who generally answer their own phone and dont need to hold a board meeting to make a decision... then select the criteria as such:

A: Only want to target businesses with 5 employees or less (owner usually answers the phone).
B: Only businesses with revenue between 500k-3 mil per year.
C: Include owners First and last name.
D: Type of businesses being targeted (ie; Convenience stores, Attorneys, Construction Companies...)
F: List only companies with NO WEBSITE (or vice versa).

The list goes on and on...

If you only want to talk to companies with 100 employees or more, you can do that too...

Offline cold calling gets way more sophisticated than just customized lists...

Again I'm shocked that more offline guru's , and those offering cold calling courses...arent aware of these things and teaching them.
