£3,000 for a logo that looks just like the old one!

Police spend £35,000 on a new force logo - but it looks just like their old one.

£3,000 of that was spent on the design itself.

It's really unbelievable, to me anyway, what they paid for the "redesign", and what they got.

Here's the link to the full story.

Wow, they probably could've had that done for like $20 on scriptlance lol

It's big business getting those police contracts. I have friends that get all kinds of contracts training local police depts and even police overseas. One deal was $50k for a 5 day class.

    That's sadly hilarious.

Yeah, they could've had it "redone" and paid even less over at the Digital Point forums. There are people over there offering logos for $5 and $6.

We're good at spending large amounts on pointless rebranding here in the UK. A few years ago now a fortune was spent on changing the name of the Post Office - to Consignia. Er, what - but it's always been the Post Office!! What did everyone carry on calling it? The Post Office, of course. They quietly dropped the new name and new brand and went back to the old one. It's called the Post Office to this day.

        Hi Josh,

Ha! Only in England. I saw the thread and your name/location and at first thought, at least it's 'them' as well as 'us'. But no, it's us...again.

I was going to point you to some others, like the one mentioned above, plus the BT one and also the Olympics one.

What makes me chuckle is when you read the article and see that they are accused of wasting money. Am I the only cynical person in the country who sees straight past the 'wasting money' thing and instinctively knows that it has nothing to do with foolish wastefulness - it's got everything to do with syphoning money out of public funds into someone elses back-pocket in a deal that was more than likely conceived and constructed on the 19th hole.

And £3k is a drop in the ocean in comparison...

I won't get into the multi-billion pound deals that have just occurred under the guise of 'propping up the economy due to problems started across the Atlantic' (yeh right) and sorted out by our saviour, the Brown one.

Oh, and slipped through with a brief mention on the news this morning...while the economy creaks, in their wisdom they have decided to spend £100m (of our money) in order to promote electric powered travel to help save the environment.

          Roger,

Do you remember the original BT Logo?

And then when you rotated it it was known as..

          A little cock up:

          A big cock up:

And, of course, a right balls up:

    LOL John!

Such doziness is nothing new in the UK. The big story when I first moved into this area was that of the new public library that had just been built here, as well as the lavish ceremony planned for opening day. The next big (but played down as much as possible) story was of how the new library was opened in a blaze of media attention by an assortment of VIPs who, along with the library's first users, were all stunned to discover that the council had forgotten to put any books in it

This article proves one of my own personal hypotheses: England has some of the best slang terms ever, followed closely by the Irish:

The money could have been far better spent on getting more coppers out on the beat and nicking criminals.'
I wish our cops spoke like that

PS. I'd say the far majority of this money went to the time taken to sit down in a LOT of meetings and present a number of different designs.

With any kind of design work, the money spent doesn't always reflect the finished product - it reflects the time taken to travel the road to the finished product.

    cheers

Wasn't it BT that decided to change from predominately red livery to grey? They had a 50% increase in traffic accidents because people have difficulty seeing grey vans against grey skies.

That cost them even more than the design makeover.

WOW! A new IM business model.
Have your wife or girlfriend (woman owned business) bid on government contracts for logos or other graphics.
Do they still give preferential treatment to small female owned businesses?
Outsource any winning bids to a third world country via elance etc.
    Make a killing.
