Help me raise $10,000 for charity by 2011

Hi Warriors,

I have signed up to participate in a bike ride to help support the Hands Across the Water charity( handacrossthewater dot org dot au).

This charity is one based in Australia that was formed after the 2004 boxing day tsunamis to help the children of Thailand who had lost there homes and there parents.

Its goal is to build orphanages for these children and so far has been successful in doing so. Also one of the things that i really liked about this charity is that not s cent of donor's money goes to the administration or fundraising of it.

So anyway the bike ride will be across Thailand and take place in Janurary 2011 , more information on that here

For the bike ride i have pleged to raise $10,000 dollars which i believe is a realistic target.

I plan on doing a lot of offline fundraising efforts, but naturally i am thinking about how i can use IM to help me reach my goal. I have a few idea, like creating a facebook page for my ride to promote, own website etc but would love to throw the doors open to some of the other warriors here to get there thoughts, opinions and ideas.

Thanks in advance guys !

At least get a basic website going for yourself, like a tumblr or wordpress blog that kind of pitches what you're doing and use paypal to accept donations.

Then go nuts with social media. Get your facebook page up and contact everyone you know. Get them to invite your friends. Twitter isnt huge in Australia but you should cover all bases.

If you really want it to take off, get a unique concept going. Make what you're doing particularly remarkable so I would tell my friends, or upvote it on reddit etc. Unfortunately thats the hard part so I'll leave it to you

I'd be careful using Paypal, I just raised some money for a cancer charity using Paypal and they have frozen my account with the money still in it. They are going to release the funds in 45 days (originally it was 180 days), so just be a little careful when using Paypal.

    Thanks for the advice.

Yes i have a domain of my name that has been sitting around for a while so i think i will setup a page for explaining what i am doing, maybe film a few videos talking and training for youtube, with the promise of filming the whole journey.

I'll donate/create a website and SEO it to help out, if you're interested.

You're doing a good thing here.

The fastest way to raise money for charity is to give people something they want in exchange for the money as well as the feel good factor of donating. I have raised over $10,000 in just over a week by selling a simple but effective word press plugin.

    Cheers,

    Andy

Yes in regards to the actual raising of the money i will be directing them to the charitys payment page so i won't be handling any of that myself, which should avoid any of the pay pal issues.
