domain name vs sub domain name

My hosting plan allows 5 domain names. The question is this: does the domain name work better then using a sub domain name.

For instance, if my site is download.com and I have a small plr site called cat insurance, would it be best to host the insurance site on it's own domain or can I use catinsurance.download.com as well.

The point is, I have 5 domains on my hosting plan but I also have potentially 100's of plr sites I want to put up but the cost would be prohibitive to host each on it's own domain.

If you host with hostgator or hostmonster or many others, for one monthly low price you get unlimited domains. I would change hosts.

I would do sub domains only if the content was related to the content on the main domain.

It depends on what you're trying to accomplish. If you want to generate organic traffic it's always better to use a keyword generated domain name along with some good SEO.

If your host provides options such as:

Sub-domains- Parked Domains- Add-On Domains, it seems as though what you want to do is create an Add-On domain. Most hosts have CPanel where you can find those options.

Your host probably does not regulate the amount of Sub-Domains you can create as they are typically supposed to be related to the main domain you are building. So, say you have a site, mysite.com and you add a board sub-domain the address will be either mysite.com/board or board.mysite.com.

An add-on domain is probably what your host restricts, it is a completely separate site address and requires a separate registered domain from a registrar.

A parked domain is used to use two domain names for one site. If you have registered the domain mysite.com and my-other-site.com you can park my-other-site.com and point it towards mysite.com, that way if a user types either domain into their browser they will both point to the same site.

      Hope this helps!

In my experience, yes it does matter. You should use a domain name where possible.

If you dont mind having them on a sub-domain, then do that. If they should be separate sites (from an end user point of view), then you should invest $$$ into separating them out.
