Google pages, how do they work?

I wrote an article last week and when it was published I was on page 1 for one set of key words and page 4 for another set.
I looked today and can't find me, why?

    google probably just updating.

    google's indexing is notorious changing.

      This is common and nothing to worry about. Is it a new site? If it is you are just going through the usual Google yo-yo effect with a new site. In a few weeks it will settle down and remain fairly constant.
