Pick any 2-3 Free traffic methods from here:

Submit articles to article directories. Make the articles useful and have a catchy call of action.

Social bookmarking- If you bookmark your site, it is exposed more so others have more of a chance to find it

Comment on popular blogs- The ones in your niche.

Submit your RSS feed to Rss directories- This exposes your blog to more visitors, and gets more links from the Rss directories.

Forum posting- Find forums which are in your niche, and post in these forums, but make sure you dont write spammy posts.

Ebook directories- write short reports and submit them to Ebook directories.

I personally think that Article Marketing, SEO and social bookmarking are the best free methods that able to generate long-term traffic to your sites.

Is "blog commenting" becoming a dirty phrase? Not that I would necessarily refrain from doing it. This one has always made me feel like I was committing a crime. It is like stepping on somebody, but it is just business.

Off the top of my head.

1. Article marketing
2. Video marketing
3. Social networking
4. Blogging
5. Social bookmarking
6. On page SEO (assuming it's your site and you're not just an affiliate)

For the make money online niche, safelists and traffic exchanges can also
work. FFA sites, if you host one, can work too, but that's not free.

I like all of those.

Since article marketing is going to be a big part of it, I guess I better pick up your ebook.

I do have a blog. I am taking that auto-blog plugin off and build a "real" blog. The blog already get's traffic but I need to be proactive and leave the "set it and forget" stuff alone.

So you only need THREE methods? Well if you really want to think long-term when it come to to TRAFFIC then you have to do:
SEO,
Article Marketing.
Submit to Directories/Classified. You can add Video submissions as well. Its very effective.

Writing articles and getting them out on as many article sites as you can is a great way of getting free traffic. It should be easy for you to write on your chosen subject and if the articles are good others wanting content for their own site or blog will use them. One article can go a long way but of course it will take time to see results.

I'd put articles at the top of the list, followed by social bookmarking. Both have advantages greater than people finding those sites and clicking on the links to your own.

You can use Yahoo Answers. All you need to do is answer a few questions, and leave your link in the "source" box.
