Hi,

I'm running a list on GetResponse.

I'm looking at purchasing 200 contacts to kickstart my list. (This is an option within GetResponse).

Is this advisable? How targeted are these leads?

Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

It will be tough to groom a paid list like that. Prepare to give them plenty for free to get them to trust you first.

i don't use Getresponse so I am not familiar with that option personally.

However, generally it is never adviseable to purchase leads. You don't know how old they are, how many times they have been used in the past and, more importantly, how targeted they are to your niche, so chances are they are going to be unresponsive at best. Many also don't know that you are on these lists and could report you for spam.

Just my own opinion, anyone got any good views on purchasing leads?

    Regards

In this instance get response put your optin message on their high traffic pages, and the subscriber goes on your list just like they would if the optin was on your own page

They are invited to join your mailing list and as such are just the same as any subscriber who opts in using a form

Thus, if they were not interested in joining my list in the first place, they would not have opted in. That makes the list much more targeted.

I have gone ahead and bought 200 contacts from GetResponse.

Will monitor it for a few days and see how it goes.

I used to use Get Response long time ago, but I never tried purchasing leads.

But since you're interested in paying for traffic, I do recommend advertising your list on a high-traffic blog that already gets lots of traffic.

If your product is in the make money online niche, I recommend checking out Alan Liew's site at moneymakerinfo.blogspot.com. I've advertised on his site a couple of times times with a $50/mon text link.

I got an average of 5 - 9 opt-ins a day. It depends on how enticing your text link is to get people to click on it, and it also depends on how well your squeeze page converts.

But it does help to leverage the help of a site in a similar niche as yours that's already got targeted traffic you want.

The leads opt-in to your newsletter so it's not a normal bought list. I've bought several thousand before as a test and here's what I can tell you:

    1. They're not super fast to fulfill (which isn't all that bad -- afterall, they're signing up to your list so it's not like they can control that).

    2. Some of the leads have turned into buyers for me (not nearly as good as PPC and other advertising but still proven to turn into buyers).

    3. In my opinion, taking some of the advice given over and over on this forum about giving tons of free content first is the LAST thing you want to do. In my opinion and from my testing, you want to have the offer on the first e-mail as that's the one that gets the most exposure. The click through rates and open rates drop off from these leads after the first e-mail regardless if it was free content or an offer (but remains steady after the initial drop off even over a year later).

Most people think that you need to warm up a list, but as Brian says the moment they subscribe is the warmest they are going to be

After that no amount of free stuff is going to make them warmer, in fact they will cool off quite quickly no matter what the content is.

I purchased some leads but now I have an issue mailing them. The number of leads was way more than expected. All from reputable sources that all big marketing companies use for Email marketing.

    Its 10 million + about 50 industry's/niches. F Name,L Name,Address,City,State,Zip,Phone Number,IP,Date and Time Source,Gender,DOB.

Its been about 3 days but I'm trying to find an affordable mailing solution.

It seems like the lead fulfilment is a lot faster these days, so it's definitely worth having a go with the Get Response Power Leads.

I definitely agree that promoting to the leads as soon as possible is what you will want to do since you are already giving away a free subscription as a loss leader. As you are paying about 45 cents per lead, you will want to make your money back as soon as possible.

Alternatively, you can split your lead campaigns to go to different follow-up campaigns. For 5 of your lead generation campaigns, you send them to a follow-up that gives content in the first few emails. For the other 5, you have an aggressive follow-up system from the the get go that promotes offers. Then check your ROI in the 1-6 months after the campaign started.

Once you have found the process that works better, stick with that follow-up system for all your campaigns.

Has anyone found a difference in the staying power of paid over free optins?
I purchased some GetResponse Leads, but no sales from them. They only accepted the freebie.

I'm new to list building and have started the article route, blogging, etc., also. Just wondering if anyone has found a substantial difference in the profitability of a paid list vs a free list.

    Thanks!
