Gmail doesn't fail to amaze

I've always been a fan of GMAIL. It's fast, the search function is fantastic, there's ample storage, you can forward the email to different accounts etc...

When I thought that no one can improve an email system, GMAIL amazed me once more today.

I sent an email to a student of mine with an attachment. In the email I wrote..."I have attached my review of..." blah blah.

Then I pressed send and got a pop up box:

Attachment 5149

There's always room for improvement if you try.

Actually all email systems read into your emails. They can search for phrases in all your emails. Unless you host your own web host and being your own email administrator, there's no privacy with emails.

I'm just impressed by Google in continuously improving things. Sending emails without attachments happens to everyone.

Agree, I just started using Gmail a few months back and it is very impressive. I think I've still only scratched the surface on what it offers.

Incidently, for all the bad press that AOL receives they do something similar.

I just had the same thing happen to me yesterday. Needless to say I was incredibly impressed. I've never seen an email client do that.

      Amazing indeed !!

Just opens your eyes once more - the application of text mining done by Google is awesome.

Look, detecting this event is almost a child's play (not exactly, but not too difficult either) when it comes to NLP-based text mining and correlating that to the natural activity - but the presence of mind of applying it on the email body is the brilliant part. In other words, there is nothing technically too difficult about this, but see - they thought of applying it before anyone else (that I know of) and that is the beauty.

So, I agree, this is really amazing

Welcome to the world of GMail - been a user since they launched - Its truly a great service ...

If you dont know about the "Labs" section inside your GMail account - Top Left you will find all sorts of wonderful add ons - Eg) There is a cool feature that allows you to cancel a message once you press send - you can cancel it within a few seconds if you change your mind ...

Actually I can't live without gmail, its part of my daily routine to open my gmail account and check messages then go over to other things that I usually do. I love gmail because of its usability and the simplicity of its email platform.

Hey guys, originally wanted to post this here to show other reasons why gmail is amazing, but felt that some users might have difficulty so it deserved its own thread. Posting here as well

I've written this tip elsewhere a few times but felt that it was worth sharing because I've seen a lot of posts from people saying they use multiple gmail accounts. What I'm going to show you is why you only ever need a single gmail account for any purpose.

So lets say my email is Bane@gmail.com - It isn't (I wish it was) but you get the idea. This email address is actually several at once, and you can make it like that by simply seperating the letters with a . Gmail has a handy feature that means any email that is sent to a variation of your email adress will still go to yours (i,e; if someone types Ba.ne@gmail.com it would still go to me, because it's my email address).

Now: Every service I have ever tried recognises this variation as a completely seperate email address. What does this mean for you? Well let me show you how I do it. Keeping with the core example I'll show you some instances.

Personal : Bane@gmail.com - This I use for friends and family emails.
IM: Ba.ne@gmail.com - This email I use for things like CPA registrations, etc.
Email Lists: b.ane@gmail.com - What I use for email lists so that if I get spammed it's easy to control.
Risky: B.a.n.e@gmail.com - website registration for sites that I am concerned might send me bad things, or that I never want to receive an email from.

Now you can stretch just this simple four letter word to many many email addresses (and the longer your email address is, the more variations you can have). For a while I used to have a very long email address I used to use to have every site registration go to a different email (so I could ALWAYS tell when a business sold my email, or got their servers hacked). I am less worried about that nowadays however.

Remember that within Gmail you can setup filters to make any email that is sent to a specific address sit in a folder, so this is how I continue to make gmail work for me. Make it work for you!

    Cheers,
    Bane
