How Well Do Forum Banners Work?

I am thinking of paying to become a sponsor at the top forum in my niche. It gets a ton of traffic and I'd like to get a slice of it.

Currently I do most of my forum posting for backlinks, so I post on about 10 forums p/day...one post p/forum. That means that I don't rack up the post count on any one forum...including the big one. I thought the solution might be a good, consistently displayed, forum banner.

Anyone know how well forum banners work, and the type/placement that are best?

Banners work the best when you have a very enticing offer your promoting.

I dunno your niche but you should know the drill from IM niche, everyone loves something for free and if it isnt in the make money niche then the free offer shouldnt be saturated as badly.

as with the positioning within the forum, use common sense a home page posting will be expensive and not ultra targeted (in most cases anyway)

so target the section that is most relevant to your topic/offer/product/service or whatever.

    hope this helps

Just curious...you post on 10 forums per day only for promoting one site or do you promote several?
I just started a site that has fierce competition and was wondering how many posts should I make per day (in different forums of course).
      Sorry for the offtopic.

Currently, I post in 10 forums that are all directly related to my niche. I don't add a signature line until I have built up at least 15-20 posts...so it takes about a month before I get any link juice return on my time investment. It helps though because you don't get blown out on the first post before people get a chance to evaluate you.

I'm in the shooting sports niche and I contribute a lot to each forum, and because I know the niche I have a good amount to contribute.

I only work one high-payout niche at a time. Not the "100 small niches" model. So getting banned isn't an issue. My signatures are very low key with a link worked into it in a non-intrusive way. I don't try to get any visitor response to my signature, just link juice. One link in each signature, each link promotes a different page on my site.

I bookmark every post with delicious and have my delicious bookmark feed stuffed into Feedburner with Pingshot turned on so that particular thread gets pinged. I then have the feedburner feed distributed to a bunch of RSS directories via RSS Bot. The result is fast indexing for my links.

I used to post to just one forum as many at 5-10 times a day for no other reason than I was a member of the community before I got into IM. Now I just systematically post the same amount, but I spread it across a bunch of different sites.

Do you really want to know how good
the Moderators are at banning people?

Be careful what you wish for!

If you post that much try and add some value along the way.

Each forum has REALLY specific rules for advertising and signatures. Trying to monetize your backlinks is like trying to have you cake and eat it too.

You might get away with it. Or the people might revolt and kill you....

  • I have personally have had little success with forum banners. Never managed to cover up costs to be honest.
