How to Come Up With Killer Product Ideas

If you’re having issues with coming up with a new hot product, then one of the philosophies that I follow is: "What type of product do I fanaticize about having?" I know this is counter intuitive as you may have heard from a big name marketer that you should go into niche markets that you are not necessarily passionate about, but more of the terms that is very lucrative.

However, what I like to do know is analyze every aspect of my business very careful. Let’s look at history for some of the most prominent business that changed the world. Let’s look at one of the cofounders of apple who name is Steve Wozniak. As legend has it, Wozniak was an electronic junkie from an early age. He could ensemble complicated electronic projects before he was finished with high school.

However, it was one electronic gadget that he really wanted, which was a computer, and since this device wasn’t something that the average folk could access, he decided that he could build one because he had the technical know-how. The good thing for him is that many people also wanted a computer, so he was able to sell enough units of his computer to get apple to take off.

This philosophy is still heavily embedded into their business architecture as Steve Jobs wanted a spectacular smart phone which hence gave birth to the iPhone, and this went on to have sold over 50 million units worldwide. The dilemma with this type of thinking is that it’s too light hearted, and when we think of business everything is suppose to be very complicated. Well, this type of closed minded thinking has prevented you from thinking of businesses that are a part of everyday culture.

For example, in 2004 it may seem like a pointless idea to put a bunch of undergraduate profiles online so that students can connect to one another. However, this pointless project that wasn’t meant to be a business formulated what is now known as Facebook.

Here's my advice, find things in your everyday life that is broken and is of desperate need of a solution. Spend time coming up with an irreplaceable truly innovative product that fixes something in your everyday life, and then when you're good and ready, share it with the world.
