Keywords - Min. Acceptable?

I'm getting ready to select a new domain name and am wondering what you would consider the minimum acceptable monthly searches for that name?

Considering the niche, I'm wondering if a solid 50-100 visits a day would be good, or would you go for more, with a far more competitive keyword?

Thanks.

Pete

PS: The most searched for keywords are NOT available in .com, and many only as .org or .info

How do you plan to monetize the site, is it a 'buying' keyword, how much competition does it have... More information?

      Mike,

I have an eBook on gambling that has been a pretty good seller in the past, and I want to "revive" it.

What I want to do is get a keyword rich domain, but of course the obvious ones are taken, so I'm left (in most cases,) with a keyword domain where the keywords only pull 50-100 searches a day, as opposed to those that pull 1000's a day,.

Even at that, I'm pretty much stuck with net, org or info domains. UNLESS, I start using dashes in the domain name.

I would try to get a (keyword rich) .com/.org/.net (in that order of preferance) with dashes OR a keyword rich domain with something added at the end, for example:

I personally would go for 3000+ monthly/local/narrow/searches for a small site
OR at "least" 1000+ monthly/local/narrow/searches for your "main" keyword, then use similar keywords with more than 1000 monthly searches for the sub-pages.

        gambling-ebook.com
        gambling-ebook.org
        gambling-ebook.net

        OR
        gamblingebookonline.com
        gamblingebookonline.org
        gamblingebookonline.net

I have done this on my sites and my clients sites to great effect, if you remember to put the keywords in the domain and to put them "first" in the domain you'll have a BIG boost in the serps.

......Using WordPress and "The-All-In-One-Seo" Plug-In will REALLY help too!

        I hope that helps!

I always use 1000 minimum global searches as the floor that I try for. But, there really are a lot of factors to consider. There could be 1000 searches but 1,000,000 competing pages, so.....

    Hope that helps a little!

It depends on how you are going to use the site. If you intend to rank only for that keyword so don't go with anything below 1K or even 2K. However, if you intend to target more keywords in the future you may consider a keyword with less volume.

Also, I think you should avoid .info domains. I do see some .infos ranking on the first page of Google sometimes, but it's uncommon.
