Antivirus and spyware cleaners

I had a real bad malware infection recently. I used a whole bunch of different
programs that have worked in the past: Malware Bytes, Spybot S&D,
Avast, and SuperAntiSpyware, plus some of the tricky ones you shouldn't
mess with unless you know some stuff.

The problem was real thorny. Popups with audio. The sound bothered me
most since I play music on the computer that got infected.

The tool that finally helped get it under control was Microsoft's Security
Essentials - which is a free protection program released in late 2009, so
it is kind of new.

Microsoft is in a position to collect an awful lot of data, and from what I've
seen, the Security program is very effective at rooting out malware. Worth
checking out if you've got a nasty bit of spyware on your Windows machine.

Are you referring to blockers or fixing a spyware problem? I would really recommend HijackThis along with Spybot S&D

I didn't realize it was released that late. I must have been using it nearly since then. It has had a couple other really positive mentions here.

I like it. It's sort of fashionable to bash MS lately, but they do some really quality stuff.

you guys may also want to look at how come you are getting these infections in the first place...
-do you have all security updates for all your programs?
-do you practice safe browsing ?
-Have you considered using 2 pcs instead of one (1 strictly for business, maybe even using Linux as OS, the other one, maybe the more powerful one, for gaming and general messing about...but no sensitive data on it )

Until you understand the causes of your infections ...remedial efforts may be moot.

    Good luck

Ugh, that audio popup thing...I had that once. It was not pleasant.

Malwarebytes does the job for me, by and large, and that's my vote, but thanks for the heads up on this MS Security thingy. I've had a couple problems that I had to get into Hitman and all that stuff for, but generally I just give malwarebytes a preventative run every week or two, and I've been staying pretty virus free lately.

Viruses are about the only reason I really see to think about a Mac...
