Hi Warriors, I have my own answer for this one. But I want to hear what the others say first before I reveal mine. Hoping to generate some good discussions. |

Whew. It's tough to say what #1 is. After chewing on it I'd have to say this: The ability to construct a compelling OFFER that makes an audience desperately want it. Ken |

I don't think there is one most important skill, since most anything you're not good at can be hired out. If I have to pick one it wouldn't be what most people would think of a skill (such as copywriting, web design, getting traffic, etc.), but something more like the ability to take action or adapt to changing conditions or something along those lines. A business plan does nothing by itself- I'd say most people I know making money online don't really have one. |

Terry, that's kind of like asking what's the most important part of a car. You can't run it without an engine, battery, transmission, gas, and on and on. Take away any one of those, and many other things, and the car won't run. That's kind of how your business is. |

Above all else, the ability to create value in the eyes and lives of your target audience. This is true in any business, not just internet business. If you provide real value to your people, then you'll go far.

I understand you really can't say one skill is more important than the others, but I believe my answer pretty takes care of almost all parts, it took me a while to realize this. And I've noticed that many Internet Entrepreneurs are still suffering from this "disease" I used to. I want to see if I will see the same answer here as I got. Some may not agree, while some may feel a deep resonate. That's okay, it's a discussion forum. Just a few more posts, see if anyone resonates with me, and I will update my post and talk about my answer. Thanks for your input. | |

Can I change my answer. I thought about it some more and decided........ None - There is no essential skill to being successful with an Internet business. There are so many ways of doing it that you don't have to be clever, educated, rich, or anything else - you can pick a model that fits you. So there really are no particular skills essential, and if you pick a model that requires skill - the ability to outsource might be the best skill you need. Andy |

Hi Terry, I would have to say it would be personally branding oneself as a real and honest individual, a normal person who is interested in being successful and helping others to be successful. Rather than approaching it as a sales business, one should approach things as a teaching and mentoring system. If we build people, then the business will build itself. |

The same thing it takes to be successful online is the same thing that it takes anywhere else. Offline, parenting, relationships... actually I believe there at several major components to being successful at anything. Persistence is #1. However, I believe firmly in running a strengths-based enterprise, so I suggest that the road to success can be a smoother one if you pay close attention to the principles of Marcus Buckingham. Identify your strengths and focus on them, then find (or hire or pay) others who are strong where you are weak in order to put together a winning team. |

All the skills in the world will do you no good if you can't treat it like a business...If you can't be at home and still work like you are in a office...forget it. Most people fail because they can't keep that mentality I think. Because if you can keep that mentality...it is impossible to not make money online.

I would have to think knowing how to get your product or idea's in front of people. If you truly know how to get consistant targeted traffic to your sites I don't see how you could fail. If you get enough traffic and links to rank your site high permenantly you could go to sleep and still make money. With out targeted traffic or traffic in general you've got nothing but ideas and no one to share them with.

The most important skill in Internet marketing is the ability to take action. Without action you have nothing. You cannot get anywhere unless you put something in motion. Unfortunately, that is where most newbies get stuck. They just spin their wheels and never actually get started. So, if you can take action you will be so far ahead of everyone else Regards, Shannon |

I would say knowing what you are doing is the most important thing. I know hundreds of people who have spent so much money buying all kinds of tools, tracking systems, etc but don't know how to use that data to make money like crazy. Buying tools is not bad, don't get me wrong, but using them right is where the money is. People who make tools like these are at a certain level and can look back and think, if I had this when I started, I would have made it big, but they can say that because they have been through the grind. Those who have not, don't understand the value of those tools ... I helped a friend who manages Advertising for a Dental Clinic. He spent $32,000 on PPC (Adwords alone) since May 2008 - Sep 2008. And he had bought some nice tracking tools before even he started. I sat with him for a few hours, took all the data he had, implemented and got his campaigns down to $1500 a month with the same growth rate of traffic coming to his landing pages, more conversions than before. USE WHAT YOU HAVE AND MASTER IT. So the money is right there, before you start looking for what else can I get, think about what do I have and how can I use it. |

I honestly think I got the BEST answer... ![]() And it's this... Knowing how to generate... loads (increases likelihood of a/another conversion) of... qualified (u want buyers not surfers!) sustainable (you don't want 1,000,000 unique visits today, 0 tomorrow) cheap (ensures you move beyond breakeven point quickly) ...traffic... fast! (you don't wanna wait 100 years before you get any visitor to your site) |

There are a lot of great answers out there, and all of them are correct in their own way. I mean I always say there are 1000 ways to do one thing, and most of them are the right way. It all has to do with perspective. I do believe however that whatever the most important skill is, it has to be related to yourself. I mean some people are great at writing copy and delivering the irresistible offer, and some are not. I truly believe I hae not found the grail for me yet, and I need to find it soon. I have been learning and working for awhile now and have made a few dollars here and there, nothing consistent. OMG, there it is. Consistency is the most important skill in IM. I mean look at McDonalds, they are there because of their consistency. I vote for consistency. |

Ok, here's what I came up with at 1:53 AM EST ![]() 1 - A Positive Mental Attitude 2 - ability to learn 3 - common sense 4 - basic sales skills (copywriting, etc) 5 - intestinal fortitude ( cahones ) There's a ton more, but those jumped out at me and now I'm going to play some Call of Duty 4 on Xbox Live. Hit me up on there if you want to get knifed ;P my gamertag is jaydinner |
