How do I make my hot topic profitable

Not sure whether this is the right area spot to ask but as a newbie to internet marketing would like some advise on what would be the best route to take if I wanted to start up a site based on a highly hot and new topic not touched yet or marketed.Would a forum be useful or a blog as it is contraversal and I know people would like to air opinions and experiences on topic.I would like to make money doing this as it will receive alot of direct traffic from search engines I guarantee it.Any suggestions? And sorry no I will not give out the topic.
Thanks Richard

I think if the topic is "hot" and a lot of people are going to be on the lookout for it, I don't think that there is any best route for you to take. I think you need to ask yourself which route seems the best to you and which one that you are most interested in.

There are a lot of different paths to take There is no best path I think. There are just different paths.

For a second, I thought you were asking about the fringe t-shirt shop. I was sitting here going "man, where do you live that you can't find angsty teenagers who go to the mall?!"

My take: blog with comments disabled. If people want to comment, they'll have to start their own blog and link to yours. The massive backlinking will shoot you up the SERPs. You'll need to drive the initial wave of traffic through PPC or the like, and keep new and controversial posts going up.

    Richard,

Here's the problem and a couple of answers for you. You will find that HOT topical material does get a lot of hits and eyeballs, but what most find out too late is...

    people want their voices heard.

More than anything else, a HOT topic gives everyone and his sister the opportunity to spout off what they think. And it all too often is not a HOT topic which is easily monetized.

How about Mel Gibson? He's HOT BABY, HOT?

And it seems everyone wants to chime in on his behavior. But selling Mel Gibson T-Shirts? Or other MG stuff? Sounds like lawsuit city and other bad karma things....but who knows? Maybe a "Mel Says"...or the What MY Women Want by Mel might fly off the shelf.

That being said, you want to know what OTHER type of stuff your traffic is interested in. What are they buying? For how much? Can you source or create product for them?

LeBron James in Miami is HOT. LeBron in Cleveland? Good luck with sales there.

So, WHO is going to be searfching, finding and VISITING the site? What do they want? What are they buying? How can you serve it up?

Keep in mind, topical subjects sometimes have a very short life span. So cash in quick on your HOT topic.

All good info no not a t-shirt but could be on one.Not a product.Contraversal to every buying person in my province and some government backbenchers. No trademark,no lawsuit can be launched but maybe my readers and I could launch one or negative campaign.

T-shirts could be a good product there - and bumper stickers - things like that. If you've got a politician (or several) who might be running for office soon (that is on your side of the controversy), approach them for direct political ads on your blog.
