Uploading Files to Host

I am having some trouble uploading files to my host server that i can download.
I usually upload to a file hosting site like e-junkie but i think it would be smarter to upload them to the hosting that i am already paying monthly for.

    Hi Connor,
    I assume that your host have provided you with FTP information?

    If so, follow this 'how to use FTP' guide I written earlier today: Setting Up FTP and Uploading Your Files | Devoted Hosting Blog (mods, I hope it's okay to post up that link? If not please remove )

    In short, I'd suggest that you use an FTP program such as Filezilla, enter the FTP information that your host given you (ask them for the details if you are unsure) and go from there.

    I use filezilla and can upload files with no problem. I have transferred the .pdf to my public_html folder. I want to know how i can download this file from the internet to my computer now (as if i were someone else) as this will save me paying extra to host my product files for download on other sites like click2sell or ejunkie.

    I have tried that but it just turns up a http 404 not found page? Is there anything you have to do with the file in order to download it in this manner? Mine is just loose in the public_html folder.

      If it's loose then you just need to directly link to it (as mentioned above, i.e. example.org/fileName.pdf)

      Has the filename got spaces or special characters?

    try zipping it so it looks like this (or whatever subfolder you put it in www.yourdomain.com/nameoffile.zip

    Or you may want to upload it on a download page so it looks like this www.yourdomain.com/thanks (or whatever you call it)

    It will want to save to your computer then rather than opening up on your browser

    You may need to add htm or html to the end dependent on whether its in a folder or not

    The file is called make100.rar/pdf both files are uploaded in the same folder as my index.html and also in a thanks folder. Yet typing www.mydomain.com/make100.rar/pdf or www.mydomain.com/thanks/make100.rar/pdf none of these options seem to work.

    Also how do you cloak links, this may answer another post i am looking to answer.

      If you are using the correct format and it's still not working, then the files must not be in your index folder.

      You might see if your hosting company will take a look and assist you.

      Open CPanel - Find the folder and create a new php file eg) test.php

      edit file - paste <h1>Test</h1> and save

      goto http://your_domain.com/folder/test.php

      see if you can see the text - could be a permission error on the folder
      if you get an error on the test.php file the folder permissions are prob wrong ...

      if you are looking at using mulitple product and domains you might want to buy a dedicated domain name and link your paypal buttons to that domain so that you only need to use one licence @ $29.95 and use it on unlimited products pointed from multiple domains
