What was your main reason for quitting your day job and starting an online business?

The three reasons why l decided to quit my day job of being a carpenter to earn a full time living online were because:

1. To earn more money
2. To be your own boss
3. To have more freedom

Has anyone else got any other reasons why they would quit there day job to work online?

Well, I didn't quit my day job until I had a one year emergency fund and my business income exceeded my job income for a period of 3 straight months. As a former financial planner I don't recommend people to quit their jobs until they have at least one year of living expenses saved up and their business has had at least one quarter of consistent earnings.

I've seen many small business owners ignore that advice and more often than not it comes back to haunt them.

I know you were looking for other reasons why people would quit their day job to work online, but just wanted to add if they're going to do it, they should do it when the time is right.

My main reason for quitting my day job was to have total and complete control over my own destiny and have the freedom to do what I want. I also felt I could do more and help more people by starting businesses that made a difference in this world.

I started pursuing online marketing because I needed more money. I have a background as a mental health therapist, and definitely enjoyed that line of work, but once I started a family it quickly became obvious it was going to be tough to cut it on that kind of salary.

As a super side benefit, I love working from home and watching my kids grow up

1.As an I.T consultant. I can't complain but I want the FREEDOM to do things my way.

2.Slaving away is getting in the way of my dreams.

3.Setting up my life and family a life of independence.

4.The opportunity to meet people who i would never have met staying where i was.

5.I want to have more time with my family, friends, and more importantly, for myself.

Finally,Facing your fears is good for you. And you will face all of them, sometimes in a single day. How many fears do you face on a daily basis at your day job? How much do you grow as a person at your day job?

I didn't quit my day job because... well, I haven't had a day job ever.

I'm working on my own startup though. Ironic, I'll be going online to offline, eh.

I think I knew even when I was a kid that I was not cut out to work for other people all my life. I had a pretty good career going for a major US corporation when I finally bailed. My family and friends thought I was nuts. But while successful at what I did, I was miserable. I knew if I stuck with it I'd end up mad at the world and hating life. No amount of money is worth that.

I believe some people are just born to be entrepreneurs. Others are born to be employees. Both have their pros and cons. One thing I'm certain of - there are a LOT of people who were born to be their own bosses who never take the chance. They feel safer, but I kind of pity them for accepting a life that doesn't make them very happy.

I actually stumbled across it when I was looking for jobs in freelance writing. I heard about writing for cash and blogging, then next think I know, I'm hooked on internet marketing.

My husband and I have had our own biz for 15+ years, out there in the real world. He does stone chip repair on vehicles for area car dealers. He's loved having the freedom to do his job his way, meet lots of different people, and travel around the area. It's been very successful for us. I've been the one at home, doing the boring stuff like bookwork, banking, fielding phone calls etc.

He had the idea of marketing a complete kit, very similar to what he uses to repair the stone chips, and selling it online across Canada. We certainly cant travel across the country to do this ourselves, so our kit works very well. It's a slow but steady biz, and we are pleased with the progress so far.

Part of the reason to do this is to make extra money, of course, as his job is slower in the winter, and the extra $$ could help us at that time. Another reason is to give me more to do. I dont want to go work for someone else, I want to do something that is for us. So far so good!

I'd love a biz we can run online from the beach in Mexico in the winter!

I actually starting marketing online in college because I needed some extra money. I worked part-time at a golf course while I was in college, but I also played collegiate golf it was very hard for me to find the time to log a lot of hours at a traditional job.

I actually found out about "making money online" When a friend of my father's tried to recruit him into an MLM company. Now, I don't do MLM whatsoever, but it did get the wheels turning and I began researching the possibilities of online marketing.

I have a psychology and statistics degree, but I joke with my friends and family that I was really studying internet marketing the whole time (which is true!).

I think that college is an excellent time for someone to start an online business, because you can literally get started for free, and reinvest a portion of your earnings. If I could do one thing over again, I would have reinvested more of my initial earnings.

Heck, I'm 23 and I might have been retired by now.

I realized it was possible when we sold one customer on a monthly payment that was equal to my salary, and I was already making half my salary on google adsense.

To have more time and money and put up with "office politics". . Quit my day job when I made more money per month than I did while working. I have a business working from the home for the last 20 years and am still working it. Looking for a change and want to start doing internet marketing. Just getting older right now.

First, to escape the hell I went through with my day job. I'm in the middle of a legal battle with my former employer. Another month until the trial, and then they'll be out of my life forever if I have my way.

Second, to pursue my passions of writing and entrepreneurship simultaneously and have fun capitalizing on my interests and talents.

Third, for job security and flexibility, so I can work from university, while on vacation (like I'm doing right now), while traveling, from home, or wherever the heck I want.

There are more reasons, but those are the main ones.

I was disabled in a car accident in 2004 and have been looking for ways to remain mentally active even while not physically able to go out to the daily 9to5 job anymore. I just discovered IM all these years later and had been basically doing IM'ish type projects online all this time FOR FREE *gasps*. Now I'm looking to monitize it all and live happily ever after.

This was actually a blessing in disguise for me. I love the freedom that IM can provide all while I'm basically writing about the same sort of things that I did while working for someone else. Now all I have to do is make it work, lol. I have patience and nothing but time.

Because I had to get on Social Security Disability. My hips need replacing and I need to lose the weight which I am working on, but I have to sit and stand so often that I just couldn't continue at a regular job.

Not to mention, I would rather own my own gig than work for someone else.
