I got a problem (with many marketing products and WSOs)

I see many interesting products,

and there seems to be an increase in releasing "full blown courses" consisting of half dozen DVDs or CDs...and some WSOs/products are "only" courses consisting of videos.

So..i know that actually many people prefer videos, but my attention span is just too short (or i am too impatient) since its just impossible for me to follow MOST videos.

I have seen instructional courses and products where the presentation was just so slow, i couldnt take it. Eg. watching someone for a whole 5 mins just to open a file on the PC or move around his mouse.

I personally am the type to prefer a book/PDF where i can quickly jump to wherever i want.

I also think that some products could be packed into a book and i dont think its convenient to make a 6 CD/DVD video-series with camtasia screencasts and often boring filling speeches.

Or maybe its just me..dont know..

One reason why when I was asked to make my wordpress secured product into a video I declined.. Step by Step guide with screenshots is way better ...

I personally would not buy any of those video courses, for the same reasons you posted.. I rather read a book/pdf..

I think the smart marketers will take the time to make products available as videos and PDFs to appeal to more people.

Some people love video and hate reading books. By making it available both ways the product creator has more potential customers.

I think the reason that so many marketers are using video as the teaching method is because not only does it have a high percieved value, but it's actually faster and easier to create a video than to write a book. If they can just record their online activites with Camtasia they have an instant product.

With a little extra time and effort they could also make a PDF so that the video haters might be interested in their product too.

I definitely prefer books to videos. Anyone marketing just videos is likely to not get my business.

I'm like you George. It may be because I'm older but if an offer doesn't have a "book" I usually pass it up.

I can read how to do something faster than I can wait for someone to mouse around the screen and type in their passwords. I also like the .pdf or whatever that I can print out and refer to and make notes in the margins.

Give me 5 pages of "meat and potatoes" anyday!

I have always been saying this...

    1. Do videos fast
    2. Do them with audio MP3's
    3. Get them transcribed into PDF's

This is the best formula that clicks everywhere. You target all the possible audiences for your market. Long live marketers who do multiple modalities... And long live their customers.

I hear you - I can't bear those slow things, makes me want to crawl out of my skin. I have adhd (attention deficit hyper... oh look shiny!) so I definately know what you mean.

My favorite approach is a good no-fluff video (not too long) that explains the strategy accompanied by a much more in-depth PDF for reference and deeper understanding. I could give examples but it would be so obviously biased.

My preference is PDF's but not because I have a problem with paying attention - I could sit and watch a video all day except that I don't happen to have all day - I've got a lot of other stuff to do too.

I can read and scan a book a LOT faster than it takes to watch a video or listen to an audio so unless the content just can't be described in a book format I much prefer to read over watching a video. I remember the stuff I read better too.

And have you noticed how much more space videos take up on your hard drive?

I absolutely HATE videos. Give me ebooks and reports any day.

I know video is the big thing these days, but I would just prefer an ebook

    BJ!

Different people have different choices. And there are a ton of people out there you just love videos like something.

As I have said, having all the three modalities is the best way to go about it.

Many people dislike videos because the presenter is too slow... or their internet connections are too slow. Some slow elements contribute to the fact that many people do not like vids.

      Hi Folks

Personally I think it shouldn't really matter whether it's a video or an ebook. In my opinion it's what the customer prefers.

It very much depends on the person's preferences. I think each has it's own unique benefit to its own unique audience.

For example it is much more difficult trying to explain in an ebook on how to design a website than 'showing' how to do it in a video.

I think if you're up front about what the video covers with 'snippets' then the customer knows what s/he is getting. In my opinion irrespective of how long a video is they are suited to topics that are difficult to explain - especially technical topics.

If, for example the subject matter is on how to get the 'best profit out of your PPC campaign' then an ebook IS probably the best resource.

I think to put personal preferences above what the market wants is wrong - let the 'market' decide.

If videos were so 'long and boring or whatever' Video would have died a long time ago my friends!

      Regards

      Peter

Tell that to David DeAngelo, who makes $20+ million a YEAR selling mostly CD and DVD courses. (Yeah, he does also have an ebook at the beginning of his funnel.)

Who cares about our own personal preferences, though? It's YOUR POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS that matter. If enough of them wanted their information melted onto swiss cheese I'd consider it.

A lot of people wanted me to make a copywriting video course, which is what I did. Plus, it's hard to see somebody writing copy from a book.

Personally, I am a visual person, so I like videos a LOT more. Yeah, sometimes it sucks to sit through stuff that I already know... but I pick up SO much more through videos rather than a book if it is stuff I don't already know.

However, I realize that many people still would rather read than watch a video, so I offer both options on my course.

Adding mp3 is also a good suggestion!

It depends sometimes on your market. The youtube generation will naturally prefer videos along with the products that are pitched at them. It's not that older people like me don't use youtube too but we haven't grown up with it.

I grew up in the age of print. Of course I had TV but it was for entertainment only... education comes from the printed page! That's still the way I feel about video - it's for entertaining me.

If something is technical, like a Photoshop tutorial, I might prefer it on video but for most stuff I'll take the printed page any day! I can read the equivalent of most videos in a tenth of the time it takes to watch it.

like others have said it really depends on your targeted audience. for example I think in the dog trainning niche it would be alot better to show them in videos how to train the dog. or in the golf swing micro-niche, you can explain alot better trough video.

and when it comes to Eben Pagan aka David DeAngelo, with the staff that he has behind him he must have did ALOT of testing and surveys and stuff so that he relies mostly on dvd's and stuff like that.

I got a product last week that was PHENOMENAL and will truly change my business. The sad thing is that it's so hard to get it started because it's mostly video.

I take care of my toddler all day and he doesn't want to let me sit and watch videos

They are great to get a clear explanation of things, but when you want to go back to look at things as a reference it becomes troublesome.

I've become an avid note-taker to avoid this issue

I prefer audio when it comes to product form.
Having an mp3 file makes it easy for me to carry that info around with my on my iphone and listen to it whenever i want.
I agree with most on here though, that videos are slow (most of the time)
especially the ones that are recordings of seminars held and there is a camera set up in the back of the room. Then you get all the extra noise and fluff talk that you dont need when you buy a video.
