Ok - it's awful (to put it mildly). Tear it down...there are too many things wrong to list.

Hire a professional graphic designer. Then hire a professional copywriter.

      I already knew that though

Here's the thing.... He wants to do it himself...so I'm trying to give him some constructive criticism....

Can you shoot me something constructive?

Thanks! I really appreciate everyone's time.

Curtis pretty much summed it up in a nutshell.

The site looks and feels like it was designed back in 1999 by a novice DIYer.

Follow those two simple steps laid out by Curtis and that site will ROCK!

You can find the people you need right here in the WF.

Trying to tweak that site into perfection would be akin to trying tweak a 1980 AMC Pacer into looking, running and purring like a 2010 Porsche Panamera 4.

        So I have to ask....
If he was to end up hiring someone and not doing it himself....
Do you all have any recommendations on who to outsource it to?

        Love the "Pacer" joke btw...
        Just cracked me up

        A few more quick opinions:

1-Sound quality on the video could be much better. I believe it may have been recorded at to high a level. (I also agree with Alexa-autoplay videos are a turn off)

2-Not essential but if everything could be fit inside one page, without the need to scroll, it might be more appealing.

3-Best Man Speeches can (and are usually supposed to be) humorous, so including some humour in the ad could go a long way.

4-As far as I know it's an original concept so bonus points for that!

Good luck to you and your friend. ; -)

      A few very quick observations:-

      (i) It's not immediately clear from the box on the left that this is the product for sale, and the button to buy it is much too small and not prominent enough

(ii) This certainly isn't the best position on the page for it: the page layout could be greatly improved

(iii) The heading on the page is really too small/central

(iv) The video plays automatically (this will lose you a lot of people) instead of being "click-to-play"

      (v) Without going over all the text (in a hurry, sorry!) there are some glaring grammatical errors (such as "you're" for "your" and so on)

(vi) Even though it's a video page, there should be a kind of "headline" across the top somewhere, not just the smaller one under the video

Please note: all the above comments are made without having seen the video (on the wrong PC at the moment), which I appreciate must be "the point" of the whole thing.
That is insanely helpful Alexa! I will forward that along...
      Thank you so much!

I love how by helping out a friend....I'm learning alot too.
      Keep the suggestions coming everyone.

      Thanks again Alexa.

Hey! That was cool Brian, how did you do that??

PS, I have had your WSO bookmarked for some time now and am saving up to be able to get it as soon as I can. I know, Believe me I know that having to 'save up' for an item under $20 is embarrassing as hell but that is just the reality of my current situation. I know it will change soon and I have been working hard to make that happen asap. So please don't cancel your offer before I have a chance to get it! : )

You've gotten some good advice. Let me approach this differently.

I always start with TARGET/TRAFFIC. Who is going to come to the web site? How will they get there? The answers to these questions determine what you put on the site.

I think I can safely assume it is a site for BEST MEN. Guys who are called upon to deliver a toast or give a short speech.

What do they want? Since I'm one of the best in the world at doing this, and get called upon to write speeches and toasts, I know a couple of things.

First, they don't want to emarrass themselves.
Second they want to make it memorable.
    And they want some glory.
Anything else is icing on the wedding cake.

There is NO appeal on the site for these wants. The video is a waste. Why not put a couple of memorable toasts or at least one good speech instead of the musical slide show? It does nothing to make a sale.

A good headline will grab their attention. Keep in mind WHO's attention you want.

But before any of this, consider the very amateur look of the site. Weddings are a billion dollar industry. Couples pay thousands of dollars for their weddings. All this would lead you to believe a "professional" approach would work.

Now, I'm going to offer some suggestions.

ONE: Appeal to what the Best Man wants:

How to Give Your Best Friend the Gift of a Perfect Toast, One Which He'll Remember Forever

You can use a variety of the HOW TO approach.

Appeal to ego; Your Toast to Your Best Friend May Be the Most Important Thing at the Wedding, Here's How to Make it Unforgettable

Help from a PRO. Professional Speech Master Reveals his Secrets Which will Make You the "Toast of the Party.

If you are going to use the table of contents, then put at least 3 bullet points (preferably 5) under each chapter heading.

PLEASE lose the shading and colors. Put the order form below the video (if it is redone and has an actual toast or two).

MATCH this landing page with the main page. Keep the color scheme the same, and FYI, his main landing page is very different.

He actually has some great testimonials on the pre written speech pages, and the look is much better too.

Well, you've gotten your ear full, so now give it to him.

    Good luck.

    gjabiz

PS. I'd give the visitor to the page a lot more "agitation" about the IMPORTANCE of the toast and how to make it easy for him to make it great.

He is new to the landing page game and, because it's not my specialty, I need opinions on what we could change on the page to get conversions (the page is brand new...so not much data on it so far...just looking for opinions).

The address page is selling a Best Man Toast Speech guide:
Best Man Speech - Wedding Toast Speech - Wedding Toast Speeches

    Any suggestions are welcome!

The truth is... I've seen the most butt ugly pages convert like crazy and the most pristine, graphically rich pages choke and gasp.

So in my "thinking like a businessperson" mode, why not use what you've already made the investment in for a little while longer and establish a baseline of performance before you start tweaking changes for your conversion.

Otherwise, you're just randomly making changes without anything to measure it against.

Then you can sort of start working down a planned hit list of potential changes for testing based on some of the ideas presented here.

I agree that it's ultimately going to need some help, but what and where will the changes actually be effective -- and why?

Hired one of the suggested designers...but he's leaving the page up that is there now for a bit to see how it does.

That's true Michael, but consider this.

There are a few reasons why certain fugly sites/pages perform well IMO:

-it was established back in the day, when that's how all sites looked. And 10 years later (for example), people look past its looks because of its age and authority.

-it serves a market whose audience isn't that web/computer savvy, or simply doesn't care.

-(with regard to squeeze pages) I heard somewhere that squeeze pages with the best conversions usually have great graphics and ok copy, or great copy and minimal to no graphics.

I have a squeeze page that converted at close to 50%. There's a big red headline as usual, a very short sub-head ("FREE GIFT"), and a field for email addresses. It is fugly as hell, but it does pretty well

You make a good point about "tweaking" blindly, but I think that the butt-ugly sites that do convert are butt-ugly for a reason.

The op's site is butt-ugly because they didn't know better (no offense op), and that makes a big difference if you're going to have a butt-ugly site.

gjabiz's great comments also got me thinking, this product may not be aimed Just at the Best Man! After all, out of everyone which one single person is the most intent on making sure everything goes perfectly, and who spends the most time and energy on this most important day of their life? Exactly! The Bride (or maybe sometimes her Mom or Mother-in-law ; )

So maybe there could also be something, or even a completely separate splash page, appealing to the bride. "Want to make sure that the Best Man doesn't Ruin your wedding with a horrible, off colour or boring speech? Then...." You get it.

I'd be really curious to see the final look of your friend's page after you both apply all the great Warrior suggestions you've been getting. I'd also love to have some idea of the improved results. So please feel free to PM me any time with an update. : )

PS Another great suggestion there by Mr. Hiles!

Well, it obviously needs a lot of work.

I will say the video accomplishes nothing. It could, for instance, have been a Best Man talking about the impression he made at his best friends wedding. How cool it all came off, even tho he always felt he was tongue-tied in the past, thanks to this wedding speech service his words brought tears to many eyes.

Almost every sales page needs a story, including this one.
