What The Heck Do Guys Buy?

I was just looking over my CB stats and noticed an alarming trend. 92% of my sales were to women. Of the 8% that were male with almost half of those guys being refunders!

First, what the heck do guys buy or is it just that women are more likely to purchase online?

Second, what can I do to target the other half of the world's population? I don't know if I'm just not talking to them the right way...if I need to more of a "guy" and really kick 'em in the guts (nuts) to motivate them more. Sorry, I don't want to promote ED products and I tend to do more of a soft-sell than beating them over the head with "you need this or else your girl is going to leave you for the pool-boy".

If anyone has any ideas or thoughts?

While I hate to generalize, men buy things that are men things.

      Sports related
      Auto related
      Tools

      etc.

Now, as far as digital products, think of niches targeted specifically to men
      such as ED, baldness, etc.

Online is no different than off line. Men by men stuff.

      Yeah, I know...terribly stereotypical.

But sometimes...stereotypes are stereotypes because they're true.

Sit down and make a list of all the things you can think of that a man
would buy and then see if any of those things relate to information. Then
go to Clickbank or whatever affiliate marketplace you want to go to and
see if they sell anything related.

It's not rocket science. It's just basic research.

Hahaha, that's actually really funny. I think it's probably just what you're selling.

Guys love football, women, nice cars and big tvs, so unless you're selling any of that, good luck increasing your "Male Sales" lol

There was a CB product that I wanted to promote for this site I have that targets guys that WAS for "Free Beer"! I went looking for it a month or so later and it was gone!

I do have a few guy products that I promote that I did just on a whim that have wound up being better sellers than the stuff I actually try at. I'm not a gamer but I found 3 products around a game that I do like...wrote a couple of articles and did a review and the thing sells....go figger!!!

Or, more accurately, 92% of the credit cards and PayPal accounts used to purchase were in women's names

But seriously, if your products are in the 'relationship' niche (I'm going by your sig file), it's probably just a matter of the topics you're covering.

I target mostly the relationship niche...although I do have another site that targets horse racing just for the guys. I guess guys just aren't as motivated as much by a broken heart or maybe I just need to tweek them a different way...just talking out loud here trying to figure it out. I mean, I'm a guy...own all the equipment etc. Maybe I just need to be a little more blunt.

I did try promoting a handful of products that were targeted just for guys as far as relationships, dating...stuff that a woman wouldn't be interested in because I could see a while back that I was only really getting the female segment of the population...so I did a completely separate domain etc...get about the same traffic but conversions suck. I can get them to the sales page and they even go for the freebies but they hold onto that ccard like an old lady holds onto her purse on the L-train!

Strange I actually made about 10 sales off "growing taller" a clickbank ebook (thats not longer just so you know) and it seems more men want to be taller... Surprisingly few refunds wonder if it worked? Do you think it is unethical to sell a clickbank product if you don't know if it works or is worth it, just because its a profitable Niche?

Actually I hate football and TV.

But wimminz and cars are a go.

Vintage and performance VW parts for my stable of babies.

Oh, and pr0n ( but I don't actually buy that).

For me it's books from Amazon, firearms from gunbroker.com and ammo to feed them.

I read a Forrester report several months back that showed men's use of the internet in general had radically declined, and ecommerce purchases were also shrinking.

Was that you that just bought my Dad's rifle that I listed at gunbroker?

But back to the OP ... I don't think men are nearly as interested in the get your ex back niche as women are ... trust me, I don't know why this is because I'm in the keep the ex away niche myself, but men might be more interested in the art of seduction niche. Women already know how.

I LOVE gunbroker! It is my goal to buy a cannon off of there! When I was a kid we lived on a lake and the neighbor had a cannon...would shoot dog food cans filled with cement out of the thing. It was AWESOME! Hmmmm...maybe I'll just become a gun runner...

You know, your stats are really different from mine. I'm in get-your-ex-back land, and my buyers are more male than female, judging by their names.

Even if I assume that all the buyers who only give a first initial are female, that puts me at about 50-50. I've never had the sense that my target audience is overwhelmingly female.

AR15.com is the hub of much of the online firearm activity. Juan and Ed Avila are the owners.

I used to own a screen printing company that primarily sold to the pro 2nd Amendment market that I built to a couple million/year in sales before selling to a larger SP company who wanted my fulfillment systems. I sold heavily through ARFCOM. That was a really fun deal.

The problem with the firearms enthusiast (and the companion markets) us that they're rife with notoriously cheap *******s.

Hardcore conservatives and conspiracy theorists, generally speaking, don't have a lot of money.

My father had m1-m1a-ar15.com built for him and the jackass registered the domain for him (with ulterior motives of profiting from my father's name). He never transferred it over to me after I took over my father's site, so this guy let it expire. I'm using clintfowlerrifles.com in the meantime until I get that domain back ... but yes, they are hardcore conservatives, but my father's customers seem to have a few bucks to spend. His custom work on M1 Garands go for around $3000-$4000 to have one built by him.

Men definitely buy stuff online. Just its often not what women buy. Men buy:

GAMBLING PRODUCTS (i've sold tons in the past)
    PORN
    SEDUCTION STUFF
    ELECTRONICS/SOUND SYSTEMS
    SPORTS/GOLF
BIZ OPS (men are the primary buyers)
    CAR ACCESSORIES

Obviously there's lots more, but those are categories I've sold personally or helped clients sell.

If this help, here are some things my guys have purchased online lately:

    - magazines (hot rods, welding, car guides - -all type automotive)

    - quality casual and tennis shoes & orthotic inserts for them (good ones are expensive offline)

    - coupons for purchases: magazines & books (like at local B&N, Borders, etc.), restaurants, auto, gardening / outdoor & home repair tools & supplies (Sears, Harbor Freight, local garden centers / WalMart), pharmacy

    - tickets - ok to auto shows (into autos, hey)

    - car parts, cars (eBay & Craigslist - they fly to pick up or drive, if within a nearby state ), tools

    - home repair & outdoor / gardening tools, supplies

    - electronics- cellphones & accessories, gaming equpiment / games / subscriptions (used to be DVDs and videos, but we're using HD & better cable plan now and not into those for a break.)

OK, if / when more come to mind, I'll add to this - thinking cap on...

    HINT:

Sell on Amazon and you have a better chance with guys, at least ours. With Verizon Droids and Amazon's free Droid shopping app, they scan bar codes or snap photos and shop instantly by comparison on Amazon. There's even an Amazon Kindle Droid app now Load your PDFs there for the gents - auto, sporting, lawncare, etc.

Our neighbor taught them this with his Droid - -another male online shopper
It's getting to be a big thing around in our area (Ohio). Our neighbor works for a Fortune 500 company - -big thing there, shopping with your cellphone and Amazon apps.

hmmm, they say women are the "shoppers" and "spenders" but it also depends on what you're selling. some things are more targeted toward the general, some are targeted toward women, if you really want to see more men (which im sure doesn't matter to you, a sale is a sale) you'd have to get more gender specific with your niche.

so to answer your question and stop rambling, i think its a mixture of what you're selling and women historically being more of a spender then men

Yeah, I'm sure he does. Guns has been his life. Imagine being a kid and the only family vacation we ever took was to the National Rifle Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio every year
