PayPal V Moneybookers

Anyone used Moneybrokers.com? I was talking to a contract actor about doing some work and asked about payment. He told me that he couldn't take PayPal and suggested Moneybookers.

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with them and what their thoughts are? Is this a good choice for those that complain about PayPal?

I've used moneybookers before and trust me paypal is much better and it is used in almost every online shop. Moneybookers is yet to become popular but until then i suggest you stick with paypal.

My objective is not to accept the payment, but to pay a contractor. PayPal is not an option for paying him. I guess PayPal is not available in Bangladesh. I have seen a number of people complain about PayPal, and some say that PayPal is not available in their country. Just thought that maybe Moneybrokers might be an option for them. And what is it like to make payments through them?

I don't know about Moneybrokers.com but, if the amount involved is comfortably small, why don't you try it and see?

Let us know how it goes.

I agree with Joe. If the amount is minimal, might as well try. Though I've heard both problems with PayPal and Moneybookers(on the recipient's point of view) but I guess that will always be good and bad feedback. I think Moneybookers charges more than PayPal.

I used Moneybookers quite a bit 3 years ago and still have money there. Someone hacked my account (my fault) and they quickly reimbursed me the $117. I feel they are trustworthy and you should be okay using them.

But what good does that do you when you need to send money to a country that PayPal is not accepted in? If the contractor could take PayPal, there would be no question.

@timpears, a day has passed since you raised your question and so far you there are six warriors who replied before me. To sum up their suggestions, it seemed the common advice is to try moneybookers/moneybrokers. However, in my opinion, listen to what your contractor in Bangladesh has to say. I have Googled both Moneybookers in Bangladesh and Paypal in Bangladesh and believe me there are blogs stating either is possible. The question on how much you contractor's bank account charges for a withdrawal from Moneybookers or Paypal is the issue at hand. It further leads down to your willingness to shoulder the said charges. Thus if his/her pay is $100 will he/she be receiving the payment including or excluding the fees?

Why not try a small payment first if he receives that okay then you can send the balance, you could of course sent the money several small installments.

It's actually against the MoneyBookers TOS for a US based customer to send money to an International customer.

I've found Moneybookers.com to be brilliant, up till now.

I checked MoneyBooker's Terms of Service at moneybookers.com/app/help.pl?s=terms, and I can't find any reference forbidding US customers to send money to an International customer.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but were do you get your information from ?

I think Moneybrokers is the best choice specially when Paypal is not available.
I still do not know why Paypal is so restricted while they can be worldwide.

Click on Send Money from your US account. You'll get the message that says you can't use it to send money to an International account.

I'd use Moneybookers over Paypal every time if I could (except for US Dollars or Canadian Dollars, where they don't provide a base service).

Moneybookers is low cost, efficient, fast, and does exactly what it says on the tin, and effectively too.
In my opinion, Paypal is very expensive. Why people use it is difficult for me to understand, and why people seem to me to think that Paypal offers protection in situations where it does not is also hard for me to understand.

There is one other new option, which is the best of both worlds - Transpact.com. This is an ultra low cost UK Government registered escrow service, and what is best about it is that it allows you to specify your own conditions, so you are fully protected in every circumstance.

Moneybookers is an alternative for PayPal. But what i have experienced is that most of the people who use moneybookers are from the countries where PayPal does not operate. PayPal is always the best option available for online transactions. But you can also use moneybookers if PayPal is not there. But moneybooker charges are a bit higher than PayPal..

I do think that Moneybookers is just as easy to use as Paypal....but I do wonder why he can't accept Paypal. If his account has been canceled, you have to ask why

Thanks, I appreciate everyone's feedback. I feel pretty comfortable in using them now. That is how he wants to be paid, so that is how I will pay him.
