What to Look for in a Blog Theme

I am a blog theme maniac. I am obsessed with picking the perfect theme. Except, I refuse to pay for one lol.

Anyway, I was wondering what you guys look for in a blog theme?

Do you like or dislike a prominent display of categories?
Do you like "featured post rotator" graphics at the top of the home page?
Do you like post thumbnails?

etc

    It depends on the niche. I have blogs in 10 different niches for different themes. My video blog is completely different from my dating blog.

      The "perfect" theme is in your own mind. Plan out what functions you want the blog to have then arrange the sidebar and main posting areas to your liking. What I look for in a blog theme is going to be totally different than what you need.

      You're going to be the best judge in that question!

    Provision for lots of pictures, provision for ads, a contrasting color scheme, compatibility with all possible plugins. That would be a perfect theme

    The very first thing I look for is if the main content section is 600 pixels or wider.

    I use a lot of videos on my blog, the wide screen videos are 560 pixels wide. Here recently youtube installed a custom video size option, but I'am not going to go back through all of my post and resize the videos to a custom size.

    The next thing I look at - is how "heavy" the theme is. How fast does it load, and how many images does it use.

    Is the theme 2 or 3 column. I like 3 column themes, but I still have to have the 600 pixel wide main content section.

    Colors - I try to stay away from dark colors. I prefer greens, blues, off whites,,,,.
