Craze after worthless .co domains?

What's value of .co domains?
Why is it better than .me or .us or .nu or .bz ?

.com mistypings?

As an mistyping experiment I registered .cm domain (which has the same probability of mistypings) for site that pulls 90,000+ pageviews per month.
I wanted to see the average value of grabbing a name and rely on mistypings.

My mistyped .cm site got 2 or 3 clicks a month.
Even if .co for some reason mistyped more often - it won't be 100 times more often.
Beyond that I really don't see any special beauty of .co compare to other extensions.
Am i missing something?

There is no real advantage to buying this type of domain extension.

    Seems more gimmicky than anything.

I agree with you, but I am going to experiment with 2 .co domains to see if I can get them ranked just like .com, .org or .net domains.

The mistyping on this extension can go both ways ... people who aren't aware of the .co extension might type in the name + com thinking that .co is a typo. But if they come from a direct link, it won't matter.

It only works with bigger sites that have 000s of direct visitors.

Of all the odd TLDs, I think .co may have the most potential.

While it's true that some people may think it's a typo for .com, I think that, if you have international visitors, you have to consider that some of them are kind of "pre-sold" on .co, simply because they're used to them in their own regional domains. For example, how many companies in the UK have a .co.uk domain name? In South Africa, they use .co.za and, in Japan, they use .co.jp.

So, I think, from an international perspective, there are people already somewhat accustomed to .co, so I think this one may, indeed, have some potential.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.
