I have a forum with around 4000 members, generating around 200/300 posts per day. We have a ton of backlinks and work hard on SEO. All our posts discuss one particular recreational niche. It took a while but we are on the first page for most of the keywords related to that niche. I often read that content is king and we have more content than probably anyone. So how come, every now and then, I notice that a little blog with just a couple of posts and not even any comments can stuff us on particular keywords. Does Google prefer blogs to forums? |

In my experience, yes Google does in some instances. Why not just add a blog to your site? You can integrate the blog and the forum with one signup. Post in the blog and offer an in depth discussion in the forum. |

Ron idea is nice! But there is this always new website/blog that has less content and they rank top high out from no where but if you notice a short period later they are gone. Unless they create more content. I hope this is the case for you. |

I think there is a slight preference to blogs over forums as well as a definite "newness" factor. New things rise in google ratings but sink if not maintained. You may notice that you are bumped for a day or so but then recover your search position as you gain new forum entries. |
