Why Large Corporations Should Hire A Domaining Consultant

Does anyone remember a few years ago that Ask.com was actually AskJeeves.com - that's where the quirky Jeeves character in the logo comes from.

Well, in 2006 they retired the character with some fanfare to a domain name which I shall not disclose here - it will become apparent as you read. A while later I guess they thought the novelty had worn off so they let that domain name expire - only to have it snapped up by a pornographer.

So now, a domain name widely publicized by Ask.com shows a porn page with links to pornography and incest.

In my opinion that is a lot of bad publicity and bull#!@# they could have avoided by just paying the $10 renewal fee. You can view the domain name in question and an image of them promoting the domain name in 2006 here (this link IS safe for work).

They are not the only company in dire need of domaining knowledge, Pizza hut recently launched their new campaign promoting their new domain name pastahut.co.uk - yet they didn't bother acquiring pastahut.com - a stupid mistake that could have been avoided had they considered the bigger picture domaining-wise - something that would have been done by a domainer.

Am I right, do large corporations require an inhouse domaining expert or at least a domaining corporate strategy in place?
