Can anyone share a tool to use for checking backlinks to articles and other hosted pages like Hubpages. Most of the ones I use can only check the domains. I did find one that can check backlinks for Squidoo if anyone is interested. It is:

Backlink Checker for Squidoo Lenses

Thanks guys.

Try installing the SEO Firefox plugin for Firefox.

When you do a google search, it will return additional information such as number of links to overall domain, number of links to specific pages as well as other info such as PR, Age, number of times it has been bookmarked etc...

If you want to analyze results for a specific page, then just use the URL as the search term.

I use this tool ALL the time and is a great way to check on my own sites, as well as get a more accurate gauge on competition in different markets.

    Hope this helps,

    Richard

Maybe I am using it wrong but that doesn't appear to be accurate at all for what I am trying to do.

It's a cool tool but unfortunately does not show links for specific pages. For example if you want to check links for an article on Ezine, it ill list every link to the main page "ezinearticles.com". Thanks for sharing though.

I've been using Link Popularity Check - Marketleap Search Engine Marketing Tools as a handy tool for checking backlinks.

You can use this to do what you're wanting, however you need to check each URL separately. Not very user friendly. I'd love to find some software that would automate checking a whole list of URLS... I do a lot of video submissions along with articles etc, and I think this would be a terrific tool to track progress.

Yahoo's Site Explorer will show you all the backlink it knows about, and is actually what the Squidoo backlink checker uses.

Also try Backlink Watch, which will show you details of anchor text and nofollow tags.

all of these give different numbers. One says 10 for my site. The other says 40 and one says like 24

is this like keyword research? NONE of them are right

I think you'll find that all the backlink tools out there are going to give slightly different results... I'd pick one you think is reasonably on target and use that for comparison's sake.

It isn't so much about the absolute number of links that your site has (I know I've got hundreds more than show up for my sites, because of a 1200 directory submission I did once).

Rather, it is about seeing where you are at now, and using that number to improve on. This way you can gauge your progress and have some indicator of success.

I don't think you'll ever see EVERY last link that points to your site...
