How do You Manage Your List(s)?

I subscribe to a variety of internet marketing lists, and one reason that I do this is to see how different people handle their lists.

While of course list-building is important, list management is something that does not normally facilitate nearly as much discussion.

However, once you have a list, how do you combine selling to your list, and providing quality free content? I have seen many marketers who bombard their list each day with paid offers, and I have seen others that just send a casual email every few weeks.

I have my methods, but I wanted to see what other Warriors are doing to maintain a great relationship with their list(s), and make money from them at the same time.

    the thing is with signing up to others' lists to find out how they manage your potential partner/customers is kind of pointless in the end because the mic stands it's impossible to determine their success from their particular technique.

      Actually, its not pointless at all.

      It is called reverse engineering, and it is used in marketing as well as many other fields. Besides, when you look at some of the so-called "guru's" (I hate that term) such as Frank Kern, John Reese, Willie Crawford, as well as other well know marketers such as Chris Rempel, Sean Mize, etc. you can get a feel for what they are doing, and how they are doing it.

      Of course you are not going to get there exact business model, but you gain insights into how they run things. I know that some prominent members of this forum manage their lists well, and I wanted to get further insight into how they do this, and their logic behind their process.

    Hey,

    Yeah I agree with mlord10, Signing up to the so called "GURUS" ( I hate the term too ) is definitely not pointless, If you follow how the people who you know are making money online are email marketing to you and how often they give free stuff Vs try to sell to you, you can build up a good view of how you should keep your relationship with your list going.
    I actually have an email address set up just for this reason and I have got some great tips and ideas for keeping my list warm

      Exactly. I don't see the point in reinventing the wheel when I can simply emulate people who are successful. Seems so much easier.

    I make most of my web income from my mailing list (I prefer newsletters) and I could not agree more that the key is not to sell directly, but provide relevant information and include offers that are complimentary.

    Give more, sell less works for me too. The more value you give without pushing the sell the more value you receive in the form of sales.

    As a rule of thumb even if you were going to include a sell mention frequently ensure that you are heavy on the content. Give them max value before you ask for their money.

      I tend to agree with you Ryan. The more good content that you give your subscribers, the more likely they are to check out the products and services that you are selling.

      At least that is what I have learned after mismanaging a few lists in the past.

    Interesting topic. It all depends on what sort of subscriber is on your list and also how they got on your list.

    I find JV giveaway subscribers tend to be freebie seekers whereas forum and JV swap subscribers are more interested in offers of value.
