I need some advice on offering a health coaching service

Fellow warriors and life entrepreneurs,

I graduated college last year as a computer science major. However, I lost interest in that field and started getting more and more interested in and passionate about health and raw nutrition, especially raw foods and the raw food diet. Over the last year, I've been extensively reading about and studying the subject of raw foods nutrition. I've also taken an online certification course by one of the leaders of the raw food movement and at this point, I feel like I have so much knowledge and experience in this field that I can offer a tremendous amount of value and help people transform their health, diet and lifestyle habits and solve many of their problems and educate them about nutrition. So I recently decided that a good way to do that would be to offer my services as a raw food coach. However, I honestly don't know where exactly to start and I don't have much money to spend on marketing and advertising. I'm very passionate about this that I'm willing to go as far as offering my service for free for the first 10 clients or so just to establish a reputation for myself. I'm also willing to offer it both offline and online, although I don't have any expertise with building a website and the technical aspect of it. That's why I thought I would seek some advice here. To me it seems that a first step would be to put a website together and start offering advice on discussion forums with a link to my coaching service but I feel that would be a bit slow and that there's a better way to go about it so I thought I would ask here.

Thanks for reading,

Alex

Hmmm.. sounds great there. what kind of credibility do you have besides the certification? Did you have a book written?

If you are really passionate and interested, perhaps we could work something out together. Maybe we can talk in PM, followed by skype or something.

    Greetings Alex,

To start with, build yourself a WordPress blog and give it a good domain with a keyword rich name.
Write some articles, or hire someone at a very reasonable price so that you can post about two new articles per week.

Give away a small report to encourage more folks to leave their name and e-mail address with you.

Use the free classifieds, starting with Craigslist to post news of your service.

Make up some flyers and/or business cards and distribute them to all of the health clubs in your area.

Go to all of the natural food or whole foods stores and post your business cards on their bulletin boards.

Offering a free 30 day or 60 day introduction to your services, might increase your clients?.
Setting up that your clients can pay on a monthly basis through PayPal, and give them a 100% money back guarantee with their membership.

Do a global search for local trainers in your area, let them know you are noncompetitive and will offer an affiliate program to them for all of their referrals.

When people feel better, and have received good value in using your services … their good word will go viral and the referrals will flow in.

Wishing you all the best … Ron

In most places, they call a health coach a "doctor," health coaching "practicing medicine," and doing so without a license "illegal."

You really, really, REALLY need to speak to a lawyer about what you can and cannot offer and where the lines are on this.

Hi Alex, Ron said exactly what I would have said. Make a blog, be personable, give away good free info, write a book... a page a day seriously... sell that. Amazon has just created a site called create space which allows you to take your ebook and quickly turn it around into a real book. For cheap... Get some for yourself and take them to local businesses and ask them to put in their waiting room. Some places might even sell them for you. I don't know where you are located or what laws you have, but I believe you should be ok. You might be more classified as a raw food chef... if you do recipes. I actually bought a raw food cake from one in my town :-) She taught classes about raw food making and dieting. It's a bit different from a doctor. Just as long as you aren't saying that you cure cancer with your raw food. Stay away from blatant claims. Anyway, hope my rambling has helped.
