I'm trying to find a theme that I can use with WP to build pages and sites with quickly. I came across three that might be what I'm looking for, has anyone used them? Just wanted to get some input before I fork over the money.

-FlexSqueeze
-Affiliate Theme
-Squeeze Theme

thanks!

Take a look at the http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...iors-only.html

Diane lays things out in a easy to grasp fashion. Which means, you will have your site up and running in no time flat. Plus, the Abundance Theme allows you more flexibility than the themes you mentioned.

You'll be glad you chose the Abundance Theme!

And just so you know, if you want to go with a nice header, you can grab one from the Logonerds at: http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...s-banners.html

They've completed a number of headers for me and those guys are great!

Thanks Giles. For $10 bucks I just bought it so I can play around with it and see how it works for me. The link you gave me had so much info on it I got overwhelmed and figured for $10 what the heck. Thanks!

Do you know if you can add adsense with this theme and if so is the process simplified or do you need plug-in or something? also, is there a lot of coding or is it pretty simple unless you want to get into major changes? I don't know coding so I'm hoping that most of what I need will be standard.

Try the Why Do Work plugin for Adsense. It will let you easily put in your Adsense codes in multiple places in your posts and sidebars. Just Google it and you'll find it.

Also, instead of hunting high and low for themes, I'm loving the twenty-ten theme that comes with WP 3.0. You can easily add a custom navigation menu, a back ground colour or picture and more. I use X-Header pro, and make quick little custom headers in less than five minutes that are very easy to upload to the header area of the theme.

If you need any help, greenmama, just let me know. I build all of my sites with WordPress and would be happy to help you out.

I have used the Flexisqueeze theme on some of my sites and ended up taking it off. It is a great theme and I loved the flexibility of it but it just took up too many resources. Since Google has made page load time one of it's criteria, I just couldn't afford to use this theme.

I have been having really good luck with the new Twenty Ten theme from WP. It gives you an easy custom header, custom backgrounds, and custom menus.

For ease of placing adsense blocks try the Why Do Work Adsense plugin or the WP Insert plugin. Both of these let you place your adsense in multiple places on your page.

      Hope this helps,

      Joe

No code needed. It is very simple to use. They give you several stock header images but I usually use X-Header to make a custom one, takes about 5 minutes.

The settings are all in the "Appearance" menu and you basically just upload what you want from your computer, kind of like adding media to your media library or inserting an image into one of your posts. Simple, easy, and fast.

        Hope that helps,

great thanks. I have Thesis but it still can get a little overwhelming for me and I came across Flexsqueeze and liked how simplified it was that a click of a button you could add adsense, change layout, colors and create sales page. I'm a novice, newbie, dummy, etc. LOL! So I like to keep it simple. I will check out your tips which I greatly appreciate.

priatejoe84: could you explain more about Flexsqueeze load time and Google? Since I'm new to this I don't know about any of that stuff. I've heard a lot of IM use that theme so I'm trying to figure out what problems I could run into if I chose that one.

Flexisqueeze uses a dynamic CSS so each time you make a change or load a page, it re-writes the CSS file. This takes awhile and slows down the page load time. It also takes up quite a bit of resources on your server and there are some hosting companies that take a dim view of that if you are on a shared server.

I agree with peeps here who chose the new "2010" from WP (default). It reminds me of the popular "Cutline" theme which I love and use a lot, and it does not use too much "resources" behind the scenes.

@giles: thanks for the tip about the headers and stuff. where can a newbie learn about stuff like that as far as things that will affect your ranking. I would never think a header could affect things.

I bought Abundance them but had problem loading so it's not working properly and never got an email back on how to fix problem.

I also found out that Flexsqueeze is actually there Flexibility Theme plus new sales page layout which I don't need right now. So I got the Flexibility 2 Theme alone for free and it downloaded quick and easy and after playing around with it for a little it seems to be what I was looking for. Wish I had seen it before I bought Thesis and two skins. I think Thesis is great but I need to learn WP and coding more first.

That only comes with time, split testing and unfortunately, to a degree - trial and error.

I use a system I call Peak and Tweak.

Meaning, I spend no time looking at any of my web properties; my time is spent looking at the numbers on the backend, (i.e. CTR, exit pages, bounce rate, incoming traffic sources, keyword phrases that are working, etc.)

If my CTR is not high enough, I'll peak at the site to see where I can make changes, (i.e., header, navigation, overall layout, color scheme, content, ad placement, etc.)

At that point, I'll Tweak the site and then go back to observing my backend again. If that change didn't positively impact my bottom line, I'll Peak at the site again and analyze for any other potential tweaking.

The important thing about such a system is to never make wholesale changes unless you know for a certainty, those changes are absolutely necessary.

@Giles. I wasn't clear whether these themes you suggested are in WP.org or dot com. I have some issues with WP. com. I am trying to find a theme that looks more like like a marketplace and less like a blog. I got hooked on WP.org because it's so easy for those of us that don't really know HTML or CSS. My new site is about dogs and I'd like to try finding a theme that is easy to change font sizes, add a box here and there to separate a special offer from the rest of the page and generally look more like a store, even though I'll be using affiliate links and banners instead of actually getting into e-commerce myself. Right now, I'm using a two column old standby from their free themes. I may need to hire a mentor briefly to help me understand how to get the most out of a theme.

Any suggestions for me would be appreciated. The new site is DogRespect.

    Thanks in advance.

I started out with the free one but liked it so well that I upgraded to the Pro. There are still some niches I get into that I don't like the stock header graphics for but they make it really easy to create your own as well. IMHO the minimal investment is well worth it.

I checked out FlexSqueeze and took a pass.

After struggling and agonizing for a long time over themes, I finally broke down and bought Thesis. NOT cheap, but I REALLY like it.

Cannot buy through your own link (PM me and you can use mine - LOL!)

SEO is built in, customizing is done exceptionally well with an eye toward upgrades.

Very few plugins needed, but certainly supported.

greenmama, just a note... some sites targeted at specific markets and niches don't really need a header. As a matter of fact, a header may diminish that site's CTR in those cases.

In other types of niches and markets, a basic header will do.

And finally, in some markets and niches, you need to have a professional looking header, otherwise your bounce rate is going to be extremely high.

I said that to say this, unless you are a graphics guru, I would limit my xheader usage to the first two categories and leave the third category to the graphic design pros.

I originally was a bit overwhelmed with Thesis, but when I took some time to investigate I found that it was easier than I first suspected.

I posted some questions on their help forum and received answers within an hour.

For instance, I wanted a landing page completely stripped down - you know, like the pros do ; did a quick search on the forum and found a post where a guy provided the code (about 8 lines to copy/paste into the custom CSS) and I was done!

Did not have to create a new template or anything.

I (quickly, fortunately) found I was making it harder than it had to be.
