The best thing you can do is to try and start to build an opt-in list. This way you already have a market to try and sell to instead of trying to find buyers over and over again. It is a well known fact that every subscriber is worth an average of around $1 per month.

Offer a free product to entice them (preferably your own but if not a product with value that you have the rights to giveaway).

Start your own blog, try and build an online presence by leaving comments in forums and other blogs (and I mean comments that add value, not just great post)

Try writing articles that link back to your blog or squeeze page or squidoo lenses. Try video marketing showing the value of certain products or a "how to" video, again with reference to a squeeze page or blog.

Join giveaways events offering your own product or again, a product that you have
the rights to.

Build squidoo lenses on various related topics, again linking back to a squeeze page or blog

Do a press release on yourself (in the 3rd person).

Use social marketing, join fan pages on facebook etc, start helping and building relationships with people.

All these alone may not get you much traffic, but together should get you a steady flow.

It is all about building relationships both with your list and online communities. Start helping, offering advice, giving value. Once your reputation grows, people will start to follow. Once you have the trust and understanding of your list, you can start offering them affiliate products, just dont bombard them with everything under the sun.

Seo is actually the winning formula when you look at it from the "how much I need to invest in it" point of view.

If you were talking about pay per click yeah, there would have been some truth in that, but seo..you can't get it more cheaper than with seo.

When it comes to free there is always video and social networking traffic. The thing is seo is consistent, it's real. A real asset and a real business. I'm a big fan of seo because of these facts.

I absolutely agree with what Simon shared, with some key additions.

1. Develop your own product funnel.

Long term, you absolutely want to have your own products. This will lead into #2, and #2 is all about traffic and it is KEY... but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Instead of churning out $17 ebooks though, you want to progress from small one-off payments to big one-off payments to small recurring income to big recurring income to massive recurring income. And the only way to do that is to create a line of products that you can 'funnel' people through.

Typical Funnel:

$17 -> $47 -> $97 -> $47/month -> $97/month -> $497 -> $497/month

2. Massive traffic via affiliates

I don't know about you, but I don't want to spend my days building up my subscriber list one by one through article/blog/social media marketing. I'd rather pay someone to do it for me. And that's where your product funnel comes in. There are hundreds... no, thousands of people out there with a massive list but are in between products or would just like to mail out and earn a couple of extra thousand dollars for the effort of copying-and-pasting. So, if you've got a product funnel that could potentially pay someone $1,000++ in commissions per sale for just a simple mailing... why wouldn't they do it? That way, you can focus on delivering the goods in your area of expertise, and they can do what they do best... promoting and growing their list.

Two simple steps (plus building a list - this is key to your long term profitability), rinse and repeat. That's the basic strategy of most crazy successful online marketers.

Why not stop looking for other people to give you a magic bullet and just build your business -if all you did was run a blog reviewing products and wrote 2 reviews a day - you'd probably already be WELL past your goal.

I liked the idea of building up an opt-in list! Just stick to it and grow your list of valuable subscribers to promote products to them again and again. :-)) lol

You should start a website and add a opt-in form so you can build your own traffic and it will not cost a penny.

If you dont want to spend any money in marketing, you should have more long term perspective, meaning that your sales may not come as quick as you want. If you publish lots of great and high quality content along using a list, then you are on a right track. You can gain lots of free traffic using it if you implement your SEO properly...
