Personal vs Business facebook accounts

I have 2 questions about how you guys conduct your facebook marketing. These are about person profiles, not fanpages or groups.

1. In niches that you use a penname in, do you ever make an fb account for that persona? How do you go about this? Do you use pictures of yourself? Etc

2. In the IM niche, in which most people use their real name rather than a pen name, do you have a second profile for business in addition to your personal profile? Because I don't want to bother friends with nonstop marketing stuff in their newsfeeds. How do you handle this? What do you name the business one if you use 2 distinct profiles?

I've used Facebook in the past with moderate success. Its more for relationship building and brand awareness in terms of business. I've found that most people aren't there to opt-in or buy something, but as a platform to reach a lot of people and let them know who you are and what your company does, its second to none.

Here's my answers to your questions.

    1) When I'm niche marketing, I don't make another profile. I just use fanpages for my brand, site, blog, whatever and promote them with Facebook PPC. To hard to maintain a fake profile and they take a lot of time to build up friends.

    2) I don't sell in the IM niche, but I know what you mean by people flooding your stream with promos and links, its very annoying and get old quite quick. I use my personal FB for my personal friends. If I was going to go into the IM niche, I'd create a separate profile with my same name, but put something like "IM" or "Marketing" after my last name to distinguish the two.
