Do You Have Family Members or Friends Who Are Blatantly Jealous of Your Internet Marketing Success?

I grew up dirt poor in the projects, living on welfare. My mother was a stay-at-home housewife with 5 kids, and my father was an unskilled laborer. He worked in all kinds of dirty, stinking, rat-infested factories, busting his back for $80 a week. I remember, he used to pick me up, and put me on his knee. He would show me his rough, calloused hands and say, "David, get an education, so your hands never have to look like mine."

I NEVER forgot those words, and I vowed I would NOT end up like my father. I didn't. Over the years, I've had a variety of white collar sales jobs. In addition to being a sales manager, I've sold burglar alarm systems via telemarketing...I've sold buyers club memberships...I've sold cars... I've sold yellow pages advertising. Heck, I've even sold copy machines door to door.

I was a very good salesman, and I made a lot of money, before bringing my sales and marketing talents to the Internet. But something funny happened along the way. For whatever reason, over the years, my father became more and more envious of my success. And the more successful I became, the further apart we grew.

Anyway, to make a long story short, my father passed on about 15 years ago. And he was bitter about my success, until the day he died. To this day, I don't understand it. You would think a father would want only the best for his son.

My question to you is this, do you have family members or friends who are blatantly jealous of your Internet Marketing success?

I am sorry to hear your father was that way to you. That is not the way it should be.

My wifes family is like that with me. Many of them worked hard at the Sara Lee Bakery here, which is a tough place to work, harder than I ever have.

I started out selling cars 14 years ago. At first I got a bunch of "used car salesmen" jokes. Then I learned to sell and made some great money, the jokes stopped and they did not want to have much to do with me. They even have bought cars from the dealership I worked at from another salesperson!

It used to bother me years ago, but now I just keep moving forward. I am providing a great life for my wife and children, not for those clowns.

I really don't want to respond to this but I still will because I cannot control myself.

I have a feeling that my family members aren't really happy with my online success. I mean, my mom supports me and everything and my brother loves me but I think the reason for that is because I buy him the latest Call of Duty and the coolest Nike shoes at Academy but I think that's it.

Now I really don't know about my mom. She sounds kinda indifferent and she simply thinks this whole internet thing is a drama and it's going to end and I will be jobless and broke in a couple of years.

      Are they jealous?

I doubt it, but they certainly aren't happy about my Internet marketing business.

EDIT: I also want to add that I generated about 6k last month and that is about twice the money my mom makes every month but she is just not believing it.

Actually, your mother sounds more worried and concerned than anything else. I certainly wouldn't hold that against her.

Well I understand that but still I think she needs to understand my side of the story too. And also she needs to look at the results and the increase in my income.

I mean, I am making twice as much as her and I am paying for my own college, I'm paying for my own car etc.

I guess I'm just expecting too much. Am I???

Mohammad, it's not that she's not happy for you. I'm sure she is, even if she doesn't come right out and say it. I just think she doesn't understand or trust the Internet very much. And she doesn't want to see you get hurt, and lose everything. Actually, it sounds like she loves you very much.

In a word - no, you're not expecting too much. If you've ever read Atlas Shrugged, remember what Hank Rearden's family was like... he was a multi-millionaire (maybe even billionaire?), paid for his entire family's posh lifestyle, and still, none of them approved of what he did or were happy.

It kinda sucks that people would "turn" on you like that. I think that the reason that they get this way is not because they don't like you as a person, but rather that they're projecting ONTO you..By this I mean, that they're so subconsciously mad and upset with themselves that they couldn't do what you did. They're mad that they didn't have access to the opportunities that you did to make your dreams of income from the internet true. They're pushing you away because you did something BIG that requires a lot of dedication... you had something more in you than the average joe does...DRIVE. That can be pretty intimidating to some, to most. Just having that drive will put you on a completely different playing field from the average population. Their problem is that they don't know that success is 90% a mental game.

HUGE source of motivation. I do not have the option to fail because it would make them far too happy.

    Hey David,

Yes in my own family there's a little jealousy, nothing groundbreaking. But the thing is, when you're anchored in a reality that you can only make $XXXX/ month and have to work so many hours, when someone, especially in your close circle, breaks that reality and makes 4 times that with 4 times less effort, there's some resistance that automatically is created. It's not because your father wanted you to fail, but it's more him realizing something he had probably missed in his life, and hence the possible jealousy. I have one sister that is very educated and thinks you can only make good money if you work so many years studying in the best universities, and I've always been the lazy kid of the family, tired of school and stuff, yet I'm the only one to make money on the internet, and more money than all of them combined. So of course there's some jealousy, but I understand it and I'm currently explaining them how I do it so that they can reproduce that themselves, but the thing is, it's a matter of reality. If all your life you've been taught that you could only make $2,000 a month at most by working for someone else, and then someone breaks that in front of you, succeeding effortlessly (although it still requires work), after you've spent all your life doing it because it was your reality, then yes, there's some good chance that you will be bitter.

At least that's what I think

      Hey, Oce@n:

Well, that's one theory. I agree with some of it - not all, but some. To be honest, I gave up trying to figure my father out a long time ago.

I run into more trouble trying to explain it to people than having them get jealous. It's like they just don't get it. One of my relatives thought there was almost no legitimate way to make money online while some of my other friends have just raised their eyebrows and given me a confused look.

Wanna know the real irony of all this? Most of my friends and relatives can blow me away on the computer. I don't have a problem admitting that. I mean, they have uncommon computer skills. Yet, they refuse to use their talents to make money online. Go figure.

    David,

Is the rest of your family feel the same way as you father did? That would be even tougher if that is the case.

Yes and no. My younger brother is jealous as hell. But he and I have never really gotten along anyway. So I won't blame it entirely on the Internet. My other brother is a lifetime jailbird, and could care less about anything, except who he's going to mug next when he gets out of jail again. My youngest brother committed suicide, when he was sixteen. And my sister, who's a year younger than me couldn't be happier for my success.

Did you share your success and wealth with your dad? Did you buy him a house, clothing, a new car? Did you send him on vacations with your mom hopefully? Did you acknowledge his love and sacrifices for you? If you did, then there was something wrong with your father's jealousy. If you didn't, then now you know why he resented your success.

I tried. He refused to accept any of my gifts. After awhile, I just gave up. I wasn't going to try and buy his love.

Well I guess all of has had encountered one or two within our family or friends who can't accept the fact that our skills and just sitting in front of the computer most of the day while at home or anywhere with the computer will earn us riches...

Mostly these are the people who know less of what we are doing or totally had no idea what its all about...

As of what I recall...I love the way it was told to me that " if you want to survive, get yourself employed...if you want to be rich go to sales..." It's your skills and your intelligence whose writing your pay checks and not the bundy clocks...

    Best regards,
