Why Are My Videos Rubbish?

Hello Warriors.

I love making videos. When I am done, they are crystal clear, and the audio is nice and loud and clear. However, I compress the file for video streaming, or for a website, or to send in an email, and the results are disastrous.

I use iMovie HD for a Mac, and my question is, why are my videos so rubbish?

You need to tinker with the custom settings. Forget using the streaming or web presents. The latest version has a special Youtube sharing feature, but I haven't had a chance to play with that yet.

Hi there,

Youtube and the other video sites reduce the quality of your videos!

Go look at what resolution they use and convert your videos to that size.

The recommended settings for Youtube are I believe

MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format
320x240 resolution
MP3 audio
30 frames per second

If your video is not of that resolution YouTube will helpfully butcher it for you

If you submit your videos at that size then at least the quality doesn't get hurt too badly during their conversion.

  Does anyone know what Visual Hub does btw? Even looking at the website for it, I am still left confused as to what it does.

  Here are a few tips:
  
  1. Record videos in this size: 480*360
  2. Use some other software- i'd say Camtasia, but jing project .com is absolutely free
  3. Divx is a format the Youtube loves!
  4. Quality is not as important as the content contained within!

  Thats very helpful, but there is not currently a Mac version camtasia that I am aware of so I am stuck with using "iShowU".

  I've also had good luck with reducing my frame rate to 10fps. Fewer frames means you can have better resolution per frame at a similar file size.

  the best tip I know is..
  
  when capturing screen. make it as small as possible..
  
  then less compression is required, for video AND audio
  
  well thats how I do it..

  But the problem is not exclusive to my screen captures. The reduction in quality drops even from content recorded on a good camera. Most upsetting.

  I've noticed that the content of video is more important than the techniques used to produce it. I belive bad quality video with poor production work makes you look unprofessional...
  However your second video is not bad and the quality is good enough...
