Placement of opt-in on blog

Have any warriors here tested placement of an optin on the top right of the page, over navigation? Much like you see here on the Warrior Forum. I'm debating between the search box and an opt in.

Have any of you tested an opt in box below each blog post? I am debating between an advert to the actual product i'm selling and an opt in box.

Thanks,
George

    top right of the side bar... or even better a popup when they are about to leave the site

    those have worked best for me, although some say the slideup optin boxes work pretty well (from the bottom of the page)

    post footers work awesome as well, there's a little known plugin that does this for you

    I like to have the top right position be only an image of the free report, with text saying "grab your free copy of such and such" which links to a page with the optin. People don't like giving away their email, so draw them in with the product without them necesarily realizing they have to give up their email address.

    In addition, I then like to have an exit popup, with an image of the report, and the optin form.

    Depends on the site, the niche, the design/theme but, in general, from my testing anyway, the most opt-in occurs in a subscription box anywhere above the fold (where the user does NOT have to scroll) AND in the footer of the posts.

    Highest subscriptions have been coming from the LEFT side menu bar for static positions.

    Another one that works well is a hover box, either a floating one or one that comes up at the bottom of the browser, both of these work great.

    Or....you can try a perma footer bar that hovers at the front. Something like facebook's toolbar at the bottom.

    Thanks for the suggestions guys.
    I'll go with the right navbar and below the posts.

    I'm skeptic about popup after leaving. I could see how it would be extremely effective but with a high price product, and presenting the overall sense of extremely high quality, I'm not exactly sure how badly a popup would tarnish the image of the site.

    Thoughts?

    Katya, it depends who is your AR service provider.
    Aweber has that option without using any external script.

    I've had good results with the 'add signature' plug-in from Dagon Design;

    WordPress Plugins and Mods Dagon Design

    It allows you to put an opt-in box after every blog post

    You can see it at work on my blog;

    Before you get all hung up about where to put the opt-in box have you tested different lead magnets? If you're free gift is rubbish then it won't matter where you put the box the results will be rubbish.

    The suggestions of sidebar, above the fold, footer, end of each post, pop-up are all good suggestions, and perhaps you could have a combination of them all?

    I have tested to place the optin everywhere in my website. The best conversion I had was on the right side for pages with content. However, pages with video I got the best result placing the optin below the video.

    Popup also works great when the user is leaving the website.

    I hope it helps
