What to do with my new ebook?

I've just created my first e-book but I am not really sure on what's the best way to market/distribute it as it is my first real one.

I guess the main question I am facing is do I make money

  1. By giving it away for Free and have an affiliate offer On the Back End?
  2. Or charge a small up front fee? (probably around $7-$15)
Thanks for the suggestions,

Jackson

Both of these methods have their goods and bads.

I'll list both and you can decide for yourself.

    1. By giving it away for Free and have an affiliate offer On the Back End?
    Advantages:

You will get more people to pick up your offer

    Disadvantages:

You won't make lots of money upfront.
Your list might be full of freebie seekers.

    My suggestion:

If you want to give the ebook away for free, make sure you have an upsell right after they optin for the ebook. This will help you make money upfront and you can also to put all the people who take up the offer on a separate (buyer only) list. After that, you should have a backend offer in place too (It can be the same as the OTO but I have tested that it works better if you create a different offer)

OTO will also help you get affiliates. Why would people promote a free product where they won't make any commissions?

    2. Or charge a small up front fee? (probably around $7-$15)
    Advantages:

Your list will consist of people won't don't mind swiping out their credit cards for something they like (And for the record, that's a good thing )

You can make money upfront (If you want to)

    Disadvantages:

You won't have as many people take up your offer than if you gave away the product for free.

    My suggestion:

If you don't want to make money upfront, you should give your affiliates a 100% commission on your low priced product. Don't forget to add a upsell to make you more (or some ) money. And if you really want to make this a "sweeter than sugar" deal for your affiliates, you can offer them commission on the upsell.

    Hope it helps

    Mohammed Afaq covered the details.

But in my opinion, if it's a solid good ebook that teaches people something valuable, I would say it is better for you to sell them for a fee. Maybe make it low, like $5 or so.

This way, the list you build from this ebook is one that is willing to buy from you rather than freebie seekers.

But yeah, tendency is that list will be smaller.

But why would you want a bigger freebie seeking list..?

Yeah that's the main thing I'm concerned about, while I don't mind spending money I'm a big man on raking in the freebies and not purchasing anything unless I really research/need it.

Yeah, that is a good strategy but I guess I will need to find/create a good offer on top of my original ebook aswell.

As it is my first product I guess this is what I am leaning for but then again I don't know because I would need to include some sort of commisions for affiliates. That said I would be happy to make one $7 sell a day (maybe easier said than done) consistantly with it being my first product.

That I guess could be the most viable option for me. I'll need to learn how to do it all lol but it will probably be the best.

Thank you for both your help.

    Great Suggestions here Jackson,

What I would do (which I think your going to do anyway) is test both!

Set up both pages and send the same amount of traffic to both. Then you can see how well each method works - The upfront paying one or the freebie first and payment later one.

This way when you find the technique that works the best you can just "step on the gas"!
