Here's a Tip For Reducing Spam Complaints

This isn't anything earth shattering but have you ever been
frustrated to spend time and energy to build an autoresponder
email list only to have spam complaints each time you send an email.

This can happen even if you are sending good information on
the topic they requested. It happens most often when you send an
email blast to a list you haven't contacted in awhile. But sometimes
people forget the day after they subscribed.

Here's a little blurb I started putting in my emails that
reduced the problem by quite a bit. If you are having problems
give this a try.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: You are getting this because you subscribed to my free
______________________ with the email address of _______
from IP Adddress _________________. If you want to
stop receiving these, just use the link at the very bottom of
this page.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

There seems to be something about including their email
and IP address that reminds them that they really did
subscribe.

Every autoresponder should have dynamic code you can place
in the email that will include the email address and IP
address for the suscriber where every you place the code.
I usually put this blurb at the bottom of the email but if
I haven't sent anything out to a list in awhile I'll put it
at the top.

I hope this helps.

    Ron,

    Great tip.

I do e-mail marketing extensively as well, and I have found that putting the unsubscribe link at the TOP of the e-mails actually works the best for complaint reduction.

Conversions have been unaffected by this for me.

I do that also sometimes. Even if it does increase unsubscribes slightly at times I would rather have a smaller list of people who really wanted to get the emails. A big list is only good for the ego if it mostly contains people who ignore or don't want to get your emails.

I've tried all that kind of stuff (even putting at the very top of the email, which some guru's will tell you is stupid); you still get people who click the spam icon without opening or as soon as they open.

I even get people unsubscribe because they finally figured out I'd like to eventually sell them something and make a commission, I'm not paying Aweber over $200/year just so I can spend an hour a week of my life giving them free advice!

And with all that, I still get people who won't even click on the confirmation link or will send me a "complaint". I know, I know, they're the type that isn't that serious and probably won't buy anyway, but it's still frustrating.

Ron, thanks, and I have found this idea works. Some will still hit spam, 'cause they just don't care. But this has been the best technique I've used yet.

    Good tips guys.

We have to accept the fact that as our lists grow, some people will hit the spam button no matter what.

    Just part of the game.

I haven't sent anything out to a list in awhile I'll put it
    at the top.
I have never tried placing the notice at the top.
    I think I'll give it a try!

    Thanks, Ron
