BodyBuilding / Fitness market discussion

Hey guys I wonder if anybody would like to contribute to a discussion on this market.

Unlike IM which seems to have info product mania, fitness / bodybuilding has around 150 clickbank products in total. Quality new launches are few and far between.

Yet bodybuilding.com is one of the biggest forums online with a million members.

There are an abundance of fitness DVD's etc but not being marketed in the traditional IM sense. There is an ozzie company which wholesales alot of bodybuilding videos.

That perhaps is an opportunity in itself - to produce and promote the DVD stuff using lists and IM launch methods. One thing is you would need to pay high quality models / athletes for it to be professional. There is great potential for "MANIA" inducement.

I am also looking at producing a range of workout posters from my art.

There are however a large number of print books in this market - far more than for IM stuff.

So thats it for the info products

Bigger than info products are supplements and fitness equipment, both of which can be branded and dropshipped. So the info products are the bottom of the sales funnel. Recurring sales come from supplements and big ticket sales from gym equipment.

Despite what you may gather from the low level of digital info products, there are probably far more people buying fitness / bodybuilding products online by a huge margin than buying IM related stuff.

Potential JV and list building partners include all the gyms, personal trainers, nutrition and supplement distributors, fitness authors, fitness magazines and gym equipment sellers. So the potential for JV's is far greater than in IM.

Much much greater in fact.

I agree. I think there is a huge opportunity here. One only need to look at the size of the fitness / bodybuilding / supplement industry to see that. I have doe some PPC / clickbank marketing in that niche, and wasn't too successful, but I didn't stay there long enough to sort things out. With one product I had about 450 clicks and no sales. Leads me to believe that:
1 - the sales page didn't convert (although it's one of the top CB products, so that's probably not entirely true)
2 - The visitors I sent weren't targeted. They were PPC, both search and content, so while that is also a possibility, the visitors were probably semi targeted.
3 - the visitors I sent had no money
4 - My PPC ads attracted the wrong type of visitors; either info seekers or not looking for exactly what the product offered, although it was a fat loss product, and that's pretty self explanatory.

So - I think it is a huge market, and probably has a lot of potential for IMers, but the CB products seem to be fairly well promoted. It needs a new twist. Maybe a JV with Weider or something.

I am not in his list but I think one of the most renowned fitness gurus, Craig Ballantyne, uses IM in building his business, so he could be a potential JV partner.

      Gareth,

When you talk about supplements, would it not require an approval stamp from Food and Drug Administrations of the countries where one would dropship?

Matt Furey is huge in that market. He is a big IMer. Never did an IM product that I know of though he's one of the best emailers I've seen in a while.

I agree. I've been reading Matt Furey's emails for like 2 years now and I'm still learning cool stuff every week.

I think i will set up a separate gmail acct exclusively for all the fitness lists.

Just as a thought experiment I will make a sales page for a not yet made product (that has fake endorsements) like I'm talking about above. Just to help visualize it.

So kind of like doing the project backwards.

It may well be that the existing products are simply too unprofessional.

For example in IM the top products have endorsement and promotion from the top people. We all know who they are in the IM market.

Its the same with fitness. If you had an info product with social proof from top bodybuilders - the entire market would go insane to buy it.

But all the clickbank products are endorsed and promoted by virtual unknowns (no insult to them), so it is virgin territory - as are most markets online.

I guarantee if you made an info product with clarence bass, tom platz, dorian yates etc contributing (there are probably over 100 famous bodybuilders) or endorsing it the sales would be an order of magnitude greater than what is happening at present.

Then it would grow as an aspect of the industry just as IM stuff has.

So i would argue that nobody has displayed enough professionalism in promoting their products yet and its just sitting there waiting to explode.

Can you imagine the type of launches you could do in this market by getting and encouraging the right people.
