Quick Idea: How to get free content, free traffic and BIG affiliate checks

Note: I sent this email to my list this week and it got one of the most positive responses of any email I've ever sent, so I thought I'd share it here, too.

===================================

Last week I implemented a quick strategy that got me free content for my weight loss site, that will get me free traffic for weeks, months and years to come, and earned me fairly significant affiliate commissions while still building a relationship with my subscribers and providing great content.

I want to share this quick strategy with you now, but I'm afraid I can only be brief (I have to go out soon)

Here's what I did...

I already have a list of a few thousand in the weight loss market as well as an 'Articles Hub' page where I link to all the weight loss articles I have on my site. I wanted to get some more content for my site (more content = more traffic), but I didn't want to research and write myself, and my writer was temporarily tied up.

So I went to the Clickbank Marketplace, found some of the top selling products in my market, and contacted the authors asking if they'd contribute an article for my site. I explained that I'd publish their article on my site, send my few thousand subscribers to read it and link back to their product with my affiliate link. I explained that the article would remain there forever and continue to generate them traffic and sales.

Most of the authors got back to me. Some supplied me with an original article, some simply allowed me to use some of their existing content but to rewrite it to make it unique. I published each article on my site and then sent my subscribers to read each article - with a few days break between emails and the occassional broadcast promoting a product.

My subscribers LOVED the content, my click-thru rates were sky high and I earned a HEFTY amount of affiliate commissions - all while providing fantastic free content to my subscribers.

Do you think you could do this?

You could enter a market where you have ZERO knowledge and simply act as a provider of top content and earn sizeable affiliate checks off the back of other people's knowledge.

How easy is that? Anyone can do it!

I know this has been a short email but I hope it's given you some ideas. And just before you go, here's one of the emails I sent out that performed very well. (You can even see the article on my site!)

Great idea James.I believe there is a WP plugin which you can use to republish articles on a WP site. Obviously with this you must leave this article intact and give full credit. However, you can write a commentary about the article in sufficient depth to hopefully have created substantially unique content.
Obviously your method is better but the above may work for the new people starting who don't have the pulling power of your list to persuade product owners to write for you.

Then again they probably need one of your great list building products.

    All the best,

What a great idea. Sometimes we think way too hard about this internet marketing thing. A plan as simple as this can yield drastic results.

      Well done, James...

There's a lesson in there bigger than just the free content idea.

It's a blueprint for making deals for a lot of things.

      > James contacted people individually.
      > He made a proposal that will benefit the product owner with minimal effort on their part.
      > He accepted what they were willing to give - be it an original piece or simply permission to adapt existing content.
      > He followed through and did as he proposed. Think those product owners will listen to him the next time he has a proposal?
      > He created value for his list, rather than sending them another product pitch.

        Exactly.

These were all BIG players in this niche. I'm now on their "radar". I can continue to build relationships with them and then eventually, when I develop a product, I'll have a much greater chance of getting a JV.

BTW, to those of you who think you can't do this without a list... you CAN.

If you can explain how you plan to market your site/blog (and therefore their content) and tell them that soon you aim to have x,xxx visitors per day - then they'll probably take a gamble on you.

It's better than them getting 10 clicks from EZA.

This is an awesome idea, the only problem here is building the targeted list of several thousand.
If I had that big a list, I'd churn out content like no tomorrow.

Nice tip James. Proves that, rather than thinking we have to BE a guru, getting yourself noticed BY the 'gurus' (or niche authorities) is the next best thing, and nowhere near as hard to achieve.
    Well done!

    aaah! Nice idea.

SO that great free content , free traffic and easy money!

But I think you need a big number of email subscribers for that isn't it?

      Not neccessarily.

You can explain how you're going to send lots of traffic to read the article by Digging, Tweeting, Facebooking and other methods.

The best idea though is to start building a list. It gives you a massive amount of leverage.

Thanks for sharing James, a really simple way to drastically increase your content and traffic for free.

Sometimes I do think us Internet Marketers do try and make it hard for ourselves by not looking at the simple routes.
