Article Marketing...How Many, Submissions, The Whole 9

Ok, after reading up on seo and article marketing I wanna do a bit of a test for 30 days on nothing but articles for one of my sites. I have some now im submitting to a few article websites (I have 20 total) and here are a few of my questions to you article masters.

1. What is the avg word count for a good article..300, 400, 500 etc

2. If I outsource my articles and lets say I have one written, I assume even though its just 1 article I should send the same article WORD FOR WORD to all 20 sites right?

3. Now taking that 1 article that I submitted shall I also use that as content on my own site to keep it fresh? IE; Lets say the topic is bad credit. How many times can you change the content on info for bad credit on your website? I cant see changing the info weekly (for that one topic) but if thats what I have to do to keep it fresh of course I would.

4. How often should I send articles about diffrent subjects within my niche? daily, weekly?

What im really going for is for the 30 day test how many articles is to many AND again can the same articels beign submitted be used as content as well on my actual site?

Thank you

    1. Way too much debate, you can get away with 300 but longer will qualify buyers. If you're outsourcing, 500 will maximize your budget with most writers.

    2. Same article to all the sites that allow it; Buzzle is one of few that care about duplicate content.

    3. Add new content to your site as often as possible and target different keyword.

    4. Daily if possible. Hope I helped!

You have helped but to go back to #3....When adding new content, can I use the article I just submitted to the article websites to my own website? Like I was saying how many times can you write about the same niche daily? Seems like the words would start to get recycled

You should put the article on your site first. As long as you target different keywords, all of your articles will be slightly different. I've written 300 articles on acne, and they are all unique. Obviously, some of the information will overlap, but that's ok.

    I agree totally!

Also, keep in mind that results would be different for different niches. For example, if your niche really was the bad credit niche you would need more articles out there than if you were targeting something less competitive.

Also, these days, just submitting the articles may not be enough (depending on the competition of your keywords) you will need to get links to your articles as well as to your website.

Since most directories allow at least 2 links in the resource box, you could use 1 to link back to your website and another to link to one of the other articles. I would choose the ones on the "best" directories such as ezinearticles or buzzle to be the recipients of the links from the other directories.

As far as Word count, this can be debated to no end. Personally, it depends on how you plan to use your articles. My longer articles (1,000+ words) are specifically intended convey a very precise amount of knowledge, to help establish myself as an authority. I really delve into the nuts and bolts of my topic. An optimal approach may be to complement long articles, with short articles, and test it for yourself. You won't have a true sense of what really works, and doesn't work, unless you get in the trenches and try everything.

Here are some tips and thoughts on the subject of Article Marketing...

(1). As a general rule, your articles should be between 475 to 510 words. This way, you meet the word count requirements of virtually 95% to 97% of all article directories. Some directories have a limit of 250 words, others 300, others 400 and some have 500 and 600 word count minimums. By staying in that general range, you don't have to go back and tweak the article for each directory's word count minimum.

(2). Decide on the objective of the article before you write it or have it written. If the objective of the article is pure BLs, then of course, the content is not going to get that literary award winning touch. Conversely, if the objective of the article is to build brand or to help you establish authority, it should be some of your best writing. [Or that of your content provider]

(3). As far as the number of submissions go, remember this; each article directory has a time line for when your articles go live. If you are a EZA Platinum author, your articles may go live the same day or the next day. If you submit to ArticleDashboard, it may be two weeks or so before your article goes live. Sitepronews, Webpronews, ArticleCity, etc., all have different time lines for your articles to go live. Which brings me to my next point.

(4). Develop a article marketing system and stick to it. Since people are different, there is no one size fits all approach. My system is, I take the top tier ADs and submit repackaged articles to them and then I syndicate one version of the article to the 2nd tier of ADs. Then I send out repackaged versions of the article to Web 2.0 properties and to my IM network of sites.

(5). Don't limit yourself to Article Marketing only! Honestly, Article Marketing is one of the most labor intensive and time consuming means of obtaining BLs. But, it works like a charm when done right! That said, you want your link building to be spread out so that it looks and feels natural.

The Article Prince already touched on the issue duplicate content.

        To your success!

I admire your 1,000+ word articles, Howie - I'm usually just rambling by that point. Unless I'm doing a top 10 article

Totally agree with x3xsolxdierx3x on the word count. Your articles should be as long as they need to - without boring the reader. Sometimes you can make your point in 400 words. Other time, you may need 600 or 700 words, or even more.

A good article is designed to make the reader feel like they learned something new. Can you achieve that in 250-300 words? In my opinion, no. You don't want them to get to the end and think, 'that's it?'

Conversely, you don't want to make your articles so long that readers zone out before getting to your resource box.

As far as putting stuff on your own site - it needs to be different. Duplicate content issues aside, if I just read one of your articles and liked it enough to click on your link, I don't want to be taken to a site that has the same exact information. That's a surefire way to get me to leave, because I've already read your article, and I don't need to read it again. But, if you offer something new, I'm more likely to stay and check it out.

If you've got a really great article, and you can't decide whether to put it on your site or publish it to a directory, rewrite it. That makes it different, and you get the benefit of using the same topic twice - without looking like you just copied an article and put it everywhere.

In my experience - don't bother writing articles under 400 words. They're usually junk, and you don't get your "trust" issue across very well. I keep mine between 400-700 words, and occasionally stretch to 800.

    1. Many article sites require 500+

    2. I prefer to make up a number fo versions, but 20 identical articles should not cause any harm.

    3. Don't change the page on your site...add to them. Each article is unique. Each article gives a different angle. I assume some of them are humorous, some are serious, some are case studies, some are inspirational, etc.

    4. Daily if you can, but that's a lot of work, of course.

For article marketing the more the better for the most part. There are several variables for example, how good are your keywords? How informative are the articles and how competitive is the niche?

As for the word count I have been tweaking things lately and have found no downside. I used to do 500+ words but I got to thinking about the 'skimming' nature of online surfers, they don't read they skim. So I decided to make my articles shorter to accommodate the shortened attention spans. Thus far I haven't noticed any drop in traffic or readership.

What i have experienced is that 400 word length is the most appropriate length for a topic. It serves good for both the writer and the reader. You should try posting different articles on your niche on at least thrice a week basis to keep it fresh.

This is a really good point that not a lot of people talk about.

One thing you could do to avoid this is to point the article on the directories to a different (but related) article on your blog. So don't point back to the same article but still have put all your articles on your blog.

Another thing you could do is write one really long article for your blog - like 1000 words and target 3 - 5 keyword phrases in that article. Then write 3 - 5 shorter articles (one for each keyword phrase) and distribute those top point back to the long article on your blog. Doing this can actually rank your 1 article for many keywords, thus more traffic.
