Client question - got opinions? Stand-alone domain, sub-domain, or directory...

I've got a client who wants to put up multiple products,
most of them PLR, some her own, all single sales.

In the past, I've always believed that the best way to
approach a product is to have a unique domain name, something
keyword cool, that can be optimized specifically for that product
and target market.

Not directories on one domain. Not sub-domains. Root URL domains.

That's what I was taught, how I've approached most of my own
sites, services and products.

Times change... SEO models change... Google algorithms change.
And I'm no SEO master by any stretch of the imagination.

I've been hearing some different opinions about this and wanted to
get some feedback from you experts here at da' WF if you have
a minute to chime in.

So, without getting into the upsells, downsells, cross sells and other
revenue streams issues - just looking at SEO and marketing of each of
her primary products - here's a question:

With search engines the way they are now and where they are
heading (more personalized search perameters), would she be better
off having one main URL that is general like "xxx.30pagereports.blah"...

Then having each product in a directory like this;
  • "xxx.30pagereports.blah/magentadogsrule
  • "xxx.30pagereports.blah/jeremykelsalspills4sale
  • "xxx.30pagereports.blah/videomarketingrocks
Or a sub-directory like this:
  • "xxx.jeremykelsalsBESTpills4sale.30pagereports.bla h"
  • "xxx.kevinrileysvideosrkool.30pagereports.blah "
Or just like I've always done 'em;
  • "xxx.jeremykelsalWritesGREATondrugs.blah"
  • "xxx.CDhatesmicrosoft.blah"
???

None of her products are really related by genre or niche.

Is there value to building one big site with a lot of content - even if
not exactly related over smaller, individual mini-sites that don't get
much attention once up (these are not going to be blogs where new
content is added frequently).

I'm okay with my old opinion... works for me. But... is there a better
way?

Thanks in advance for opinions... even more for statistics and
data.
