CJ Commission Junction >> how to get more advertisers to approve your request

One of the more common complaint I hear from new CJ affiliates is that most advertisers declined their request to join the company program.

I have worked in both ends of CJ, as an advertiser, and as an affiliate. CJ give advertisers many tools to filter and select affiliates by commission status, traffic sources/method, 7 days or 3 month EPC, new vs old... Many of the big players will automatically decline affiliates that has $0 for EPC, drive traffic by PPC, etc...

To increase your approve rate, make sure you concentrate on a few program at first and have some money in your account. Also, avoid selecting PPC or email as traffic drivers in your profile. Just those two simple steps will definitely get you approved for most of the programs in CJ, although, some advertisers still select affiliate manually.

The hottest one in there right now is Zappos but they are approving affiliates manually also.

    Great post!

I don't do much with CJ, and I should probably do more.

One of the "secrets" is to get your personal Network Earnings Level increased to 3-4 bars. Once you do that, advertisers are more apt to approve you, even if you have been declined before.

I believe they do not let you reapply until 90 days after you are declined . . . I can't remember off hand, but look that up.

The best way to reach this level is to become an affiliate of an easy-approval hosting company. If you make over $100 a sale -- let's call it $150 in combined sales -- this will raise your network earnings to about 4 bars.

I did this a little over a year ago, got paid a commission of $110, and reapplied to everything after my network earnings registered at 4 bars. I was accepted into about 75%-80% of the companies I reapplied with.

    Food for thought . . .

    Hi,
I'm currently in charge of a leading Software's Affiliate program. I manually approve affiliates that apply to join our program. I have to say if I see a brand new applicant with no history on CJ, and no evidence of earnings, it doesn't bode too well. Then my next criteria is what kind of websites they have, obviously a site within the same vertical gets approval, if its a coupon/incentive related site I will look to see if they're receiving a sizable amount of traffic each month. Affiliates with blogspot sites, as unless its a really old well established site, will never bring any sales in and will get a decline all the time. Also if your ways of driving traffic and marketing is something other than the usual SEO, PPC, newsletters then this will grab my attention and you'll be more likely to be approved. Hope this gives you a bit more insight into an advertisers decision making. If software is one of your niches, please feel free to join our affiliate program on CJ: http://tinyurl.com/y3bn3u8

      more info please

for many merchants, i can re-apply after being deactivated. But for some merchants, if i try to re-apply after being deactivated. I will re-direct to a mostly blank screen showing www . cj . com at center of the page.

i have no clue what's going on.

i think if this is not a site error, cj better inform affiliates what is going on if the affiliate tries to apply again than send the affiliate to that clueless screen.

Make sure you read their profile, many of them automatically decline you base on your traffic method or earning. It doesn't matter how many times you re-apply. If you have certain things in your profile that is not allow by the merchant, your request will be declined. Many of the merchant and advertisers will tell you their requirements in their company or program description.

I wouldn't even bother re-applying. There are so many advertisers and merchants, just find another company in the same category.

Making money from CJ is not easy, you gotta have mass amount of traffic. The power affiliates in CJ are mostly coupon sites that have setup up API to grab coupon codes provided by the advertisers and automatically post on their site. They also spend huge amount of money on PPC. Just google something like bestbuy coupons and you will see tons of CJ affiliates on PPC and natural search results. Hope this helps...

I've also found it helpful to sign up with a corporate style site - stating your proficiency in SEO services and that you devise marketing campaigns specific to the merchant.

This allows you to come across more professional and also has the added benefit that you don't have to make a product specific site to sign up with a particular merchant only to find you are not accepted.

It's not good having a fashion site and trying to sign up for a furniture store before making the site, that's where having a general corporate comes in handy!
