Your one biggest regret in business?

I was thinking about this last night, and this morning quite a bit. What's your one biggest regret in the business world?

For me, considering my current position, obviously a 6 year break is too long. It's a bit frustrating, because I used to have such a good base built-up, and loads of good, high-end contacts who I had great relationships with. For example, I could be wrong, but I'm about 98% certain Paul Myers was an active customers of ours for a good couple years. I'm certain I remember seeing his name floating around in our support system.

After 6 years of being a freelancer, I finally got my next operation going. Now I'm an absolute nobody though, and nobody has the slightest clue who I am. They might remember my name, but after 6 years, they don't really care what I have to say, which you can't blame them for. I probably wouldn't either if I was in their shoes.

So now I have to start at the very bottom again, as an absolute nobody, and slowly build myself up again. That's my biggest regret. Should have kept my head focused, and banged out this new infrastructure quicker, so at least I'd still have a small list of good contacts.

That, and selling my business for peanuts on the dollar. Without a doubt, the new owner made the purchase price back within a month or two. That was really stupid of me. My marriage was falling apart at the time though, so I was a bit shaken up, stressed out, etc... and just didn't want to have anything to do with business then. And I just wanted out, and quickly. One e-mail to about 10 close contacts, and about 6 hours later, business was sold.

Anyway, sorry... just needed to rant for a bit. So, what's your biggest regret in the business world?

Putting too much of my life's focus in it. Sure it's important and worthy but it shouldn't consume you. Do not neglect life in general. Family, hobbies, fitness, social life etc.

Try to get there too fast....adds to stress. Take it easy.

Learning to work less for bigger money..passive is the key.

Maybe I had to go through all the learning curves to learn this lesson?

My biggest regret is that I didn't start building my list from day 1.

Not starting when I was 18 (in 1998), and finding the WF then.

I messed about with some affiliate stuff in 2000 but failed and gave up. If only I found a source of advice like WF back then, I'd be in my Bermudas, sipping cocktails on the Gold Coast now!

Too many regrets to mention, and I'm probably still building tomorrow's regrets today. I would not name a customer, past or present on a forum though, however obscure the reference was, even if it was a favourable one. Making just the smallest breach of customer confidentiality is something I'd find regrettable.

I've made plenty of mistakes in business and life too
but I don't regret any of them.

All of the mistakes have made me who I am and today
and most of my biggest mistakes have also led to my
      biggest breakthroughs.
